So the supermarkets will be open again after 2 day break tomorrow. Do you think they will have reduced items in fruit, veg and the chillers as soon as they open - especially since it's a Sunday start-time? In the past I've headed in as soon as they've opened hoping to get reduced bargains of meat etc for the freezer but often they've only started reducing it during the course of the morning, so I've missed out. (I Did pick up a stonking bargain on a cheese and wine hamper when I spotted the staff gathering round the person with the price-gun though.)

Is anyone 'in the know'? Have they got staff in well before they open, marking prices down? Or am I best leaving them an hour or two?

As far as I know the mark downs will not start at Tesco until later in the day. Most stuff was cleared out by staying open late on Christmas Eve, or moving the stock to those stores open today.

Well i went in hunt of bargains but not much luck really.

xmas eve morning-morrisions-no good reductions there!
eve afternoon tesco metro got a bit on fruit/veg but no meat, went opposite to small somerfeild useless nothing in there!

Drove to large co-op nothing in there!

They were opening boxing day so went in yesterday got few bits but not lots of meat as we had been hoping for got some chicken, salmon fillets and some goujons.

    No turkey in sight!
few years ago big regret was seeing large fresh turkey sainsburys xmas eve and not buying as drove a vespa at time and couldent fit anymore on!

we dident have turky as too pricey as we buy free range so had duck from lidls and free range chicken from lidls as turkeys were 20quid+in sainsburys.

Hubbys taking his mum shopping in big somerfeild asked him to look out for bargains.
We both used to work food retail so know how it works.
was expecting lots in co-op yesterday and xmas eve but their strategy seems to reduce on last day which could come back to bite them as they wont get the footfall to clear it as everyones brought far too much as it is.
Some reductions I saw were measly.

Still glad to see hubbys finally turned into bargain spotter and not afraid to rummage round reduced section.

we were on hunt for meat, bread, stuff we can freeze.

noticed everywhere I go flatbreads on chilled are reduced going to try make good pizza base with it.

I had meant to go today but its pelting down outside , the poor husband has cleared that road and car about twenty times and says he isn't going to do it again until april :)

I went to Tesco yesterday and there was quite a lot reduced so picked up the following: -

    4 peaches - 20p
    Bag of spinach - 13p
    Iceberg lettuce - 10p
    Bag of carrots - 6p
    Box of blueberries - 30p
    Stir fry veg - 20p

We went to Asda about 2 minutes away from Tesco and it was closed which seemed strange.

Asda is always closed on Boxing Day and New Years Day. Tesco usually is too, but they are opening their Extra and Homeplus stores this year.

I didn't get to the supermarket in the end this morning and in spite of very detailed instructions to DH on where to seek out the reduced section he didn't find anything. Hopefully there'll be some more in the run up to New Year's Eve as they realise how overstocked they are. Failing that we'll be eating a lot of turkey in January!

We visited both Asda and Tesco Extra today.

Asda was very disappointing. All the counters (deli, fish, indian, chicken) were all closed except for the prepacked stuff (e.g. chicken portion, prepacked hams). There were about 3 product lines on the chilled reduced counter: pork pies (10p), chicken jalfrezi (£1.50) and some salad pot thing. No reductions on the fruit/veg, again shelves were very empty.

Tesco Extra was a lot better. Bearing in mind they were open yesterday too, they had some good discounts. Every fridge/trolley/cardboard box in the store seemed to have packs of cocktail sausage (10p). Every staff member seemed to be reducing these sausages too (I think someone ordered too many!) and every customer seemed to be buying them! They also had mini pizzas reduced to 12p each. Indian counter had most lines reduced by up to 50% (rice 40p, curries £1.xx). Reductions on nearly everything in the fruit/veg section. Deli had a number of products (olives, pies, etc) prepacked into plastic tubs which were already heavily reduced.

Overall, a very good shop at Tesco. Bought quite a few products that we needed anyway. We now have an entire shelf in our freezer dedicated to cocktail sausages!!

I went to our local Asda at 12ish on Christmas Eve and they were just reducing things then, I got

    Bag of shredded lettuce 10p
    Bag of Ranch Salad 10p
    Bag of stir fry 5p
    Tray of roasting veg 20p
Small Warbutons seeded batch loaf 50p
    Bagels 77p ish
    Box of 4 doughnuts 66pish

Was in a rush so didn't look round meat and fish, oh and I did get a Christmas turkey and stuffing pizza for £1.09, needless to say I'll be there about the same time New Years Eve:D
