Seeing as the supermarkets will be closing for two days from Christmas Eve afternoon; I was wondering if anyone knows at what time the perishables are reduced on Christmas Eve? I know I went into our local Asda at around 1pm last christmas Eve and got a boat load of massively reduced fish to put in the freezer.

Some Tesco have changed there times at last minute to stay open till 7pm Christmas Eve so reductions will be delayed till later. Usually first reductions will be about 1-2pm second round 3-4 third about 5.If you find you are drinking too much give this number a call. 0845 769 75550

Last year, I visited Tesco about 30 minutes before they closed. Most of the shelves were empty but there were still some offers to be had. Notably anything that originally cost less than £1 was reduced to 5p.0

Co-op had all their fresh free range turkey crowns reduced by 50% today! I went to Aldi to get mine, had to leave because two year old started kicking off and popped into co-op to get a magazine and there they were...delighted!! That was about 10am! Woop! Got a turkey crown to feed 5-7 people for less than a tenner!0

The last few years I have got beautiful Turkeys - from Sainburys 2 years ago, and last year from Asda, which were both reduced by at least 50% a couple of days before Xmas.
But here I am on Christmas eve - and still no Turkey.
I have noticed that Asda and Sainsburys had loads of Turkeys - but all sell by date of at least 26th December. Also heard on the news that Stores have cut back on stock levels so they won't be as much left over to reduce....so panicing a bit now:o
I did over hear sa in Sainsburys saying they should be having another delivery on Christmas eve....so fingers crossed I manage to get one.
Already got everything else in ready...... so it could end up with full roast dinner, deluxe cranberry sauce, chilled M&S cava.....and sausages ( if there are any at the bottom of the freezer!):eek::eek:
I will probably end up paying full price rather than risk missing the Turkey boat, but considering I have seen some today costing over £50, I may just buy a chicken and hope the kids don't notice the difference !!
p.s I have just been getting all my bits out in readiness, whilst kids in bed.
Cognac laced Christmas Pud "matured for 6 months" from Sainsburys . But mine has been maturing for 18 months as I bought it in January - use by date June 2010:rolleyes:
p.p.s Thanks mummypig, my local village co-op didn't have any reductions last night, but I may try larger store today. I forgot about the co-op !0 -
Waitrose are still selling an whole chicken (1.8KG) for around 5.40ish - got one yesterday, just in case anybody wants a chicken this year! (thankfully it was not as packed as i thought it would have been!):beer:In My 'Permanant' Pre-Masters Gap Year
