My O.h will only drink douwe egberts instant coffee, but it comes in really lovely jars, so we have them on display with all our spices/herbs etc in them.

I use hummous/salsa pots for serving baby food. Save the circle of muslin from the top of jams/marmalades to tie herbs and spices in for cooking.

The spring from used spiral bound paper pads is great for holding electrical wires together (this is fab behind our p.c especialy which used to be a huge tangled mess)

The string bags you get with washing powder tablets are great for washing baby socks and mittens in

Sounds very good, but how does this work?

    Turn the pot upside down.
Put the cane in the base of the pot sticking out of a hole just big enough. Bury the pot. The pot stops the cane wiggling about and there is more surface area to support the weight of the soil to hold it in place.

Water from washing up or from the spin dryer (now there's another brilliant device!) gets poured down the toilet instead of flushing it. We save money, as we're on a meter, and it saves on cleaning it as the water has some detergent in it so it stops algae without needing lots of nasty chemicals.

We also use rainwater for flushing the loo and halved our water bill!

You can also use the water from the dryer for the iron rather than using scented bottled water. Because it has a bit of the smell from your fabric softener in there you can then put it back into your clothes so you dont waste the smell

wooden ice lolly sticks have so many uses too, I had a massive craving for them last time I was pregnant and we amassed loads, I made my o.h a tie rack out of them and painted it, and you can use them for labeling seedlings, stirring paint etc

Also keep carrot tops in a tupperware box and put them into the pan when you are cooking mince/steak , they absorb all the fat and you can scoop them out before serving.

We were advised against a spin dryer as they use a lot of energy? is this right?

Thanks for a fab idea - I was just this morning thinking what a waste it was to throw away my battery operated toothbrush, since the non-replaceable head had 'gone' but the replaceable battery was holding up fine - I will steal your idea and save on elbow grease next time I de-gunk the bathroom!!!
