So, we have had the carrier bag debate
What else do you reuse?
Ill start...
I save old toothbrushes for cleaning nooks eg round the taps
What do you do to reuse seemingly "spent" stuff

 Well aint funny how its the little things in life that mean the most? Not where you live, the car you drive or the price tag on your clothes.
Theres no dollar sign on piece of mind
This Ive come to know...
So if you agree have a drink with me, raise your glasses for a toast

Yoghurt pots: Individual jellies with fruit in (much cheaper than buyinf ready made too).
Jars: storing beans, lentils, popcorn etc.
I use any plastic packaging that can be for plants either as saucers, seed trays or pots. I reckon we use all the plastic packaging except for the cellophane/bags and lids for plants.0 -
Water from washing up or from the spin dryer (now there's another brilliant device!) gets poured down the toilet instead of flushing it. We save money, as we're on a meter, and it saves on cleaning it as the water has some detergent in it so it stops algae without needing lots of nasty chemicals.
We also use rainwater for flushing the loo and halved our water bill!0 -
wow some great ideas here
I hadnt thought of reusing yoghurt pots ( incidentally there is a thread on OS about making own yoghurt, looks fairly strightforward)

I use yoghurt pots for homemade popcorn, they are just the right shape and size for the children, I also use them on the top of garden canes they do blow off in a strong wind though.
Jam jars make brilliant tea light/candle holders, also useful for small stationery items rubbers, pencil sharpeners, elastic bands etc.
I also keep a jam jar for making butter from leftover cream - yummyMFW 1/5/08 £45,789 Cleared mortgage 1/02/13

I re use old t shirts, tea towels or sheets ( cut up ) for dusters or cleaning rags. I do the toothbrush thing too. I have also re used the roll from a loo roll to plant seeds in, tip picked up from the old style board
. Yogurt cartons are also kept for all sorts of uses. Im sure there are more but I cant think of any right now....must be getting late:p

I make large batches of pasta sauce, curry, chilli, etc, than freeze batches in margarine tubs. These then stack neatly in the freezer.
Have to remember not to defrost them in the microwave (as my sister did) as the tubs are not suitable, and melt!

Scoops in large flour , rice, sugar, bird seed etc containers (containers are old 4ltr ice-cream tubs)
Weighting the base of canes for tomatoes
pouring used fat into for disposal DON'T put it down the drain
Shaker for dice when playing games
starting seedlings
Must be more but I have run dry0 -
A use for return envelopes that come with junk mail. I use the A5 ones for a shopping list. I write the list on the outside, and put coupons inside so they are always to hand when I get to the shops.
Smaller ones are used for dinner money, children's subs for dancing, football, etc., with the child's name on the outside in marker pen.

I save up carrier bags that I do get given (nearly always say "no" but still seem to acquire them!) and give them to a local charity shop or my independent pet food shop to save them buying any.0
