Turn it off if you haven't set any timer recordings.

If its consumption is 17 watts then the cost of running for the year without will only be about £11.50, less if you have economy 7.
You'd be far better advised to concentrate on reducing your use of major consumers of electricity/gas. Heating , cooking , water heating etc.
I assume all you light fittings have low energy bulbs fitted.
That gum you like is coming back in style.

    Gas cooker, gas heating,
and a minimalist lifestyle :D (and energy bulbs) (and an efficient Bosch fridge-freezer which is currently 5 years old and no worries.)

I read somewhere that turning off your PC monitor could save you up to £30 in electricity costs per year which I thought was a scary amount of money. Another good reason for turning off the PC and not leaving it to sleep is what happened to us last month - a big storm in the early hours of the morning that blew out the router, the PC was only saved by the power surge lead I had it plugged into!

I'm dubious about those power surge protector things - it's just as likely the PC happened by chance to survive. PC power supplies have built-in surge protectors.

I received some environmental info with my bill from NIE (Northern Ireland Electricity)

The typical costs of appliances left on standby in the home are as follows:
    Microwave £7.00
    Cooker £5.00
    TV £5.00
    Video £5.00
    Mobile phone charger £ 6.00
    Cordless phone £8.00
    Answer Machine £8.00
    Stereo System £10.00
    Washing Machine £2.00
    PC £10.00
    Printer£ 15.00
    PC Speakers £5.00

    Total £86.00

I hope there were some explanatory notes with this: microwaves and cookers without clocks will take no power at all when not operating. Washing machines without electronic controls take no power once they finish their cycle.
