Old thread but I wanted to note this:
I have bought an power monitor a while back and recently tested some stuff
A new LG 26 LCD TV 26LH2000 (I think) uses
0W switched off at the wall or with the on/off switch at the back
21W in standby
75W in normal use
65W in economy mode (screen goes darker)
41W in super economy mode (screen goes even more dark)
38W - 41W in economy mode - sound only no screen on at all.
A Brand new Panasonic Viera Plasma 40 inch ? dunno the model but it's something like PTX40.....
0W off at the wall
21W not in stand-by but 'off' using the on/off button at the back - Unbelieveable really!
41W in stand-by
160W - 250W in normal use fluctuates.
Old CRT 21" TV must be circa 1995
0W at the wall
9W in Standby
50W in normal use
Scan DVD player about 10 years old
0W off at the walll
7 - 9W in standby
23W switched on, whether playing or not.
Something is wrong:

Consumption (Typical W)110Stand-by (Cable card on)under 1wDC Off (W)
All Panasonic TV's have a standby consumption under 1w.
Are you powering something else(aux power) from the TV?
Is there a recording facility built in?
Is there a delay before it switches to standby?0 -
Hi Cardew,
Well it aint the fault of the power meter because I can test it on a 7W light bulb and other fixed watt lightbulbs and it reads exactly what it should read.
The LG TV has got an HDMI cable in it and another cable which I didn't pay much attention to, but I will double check next time that the TV is not powering anything else. It shouldn't be, because the only other 2 units near it have their own power cables a dvd player and a sky HD box.
The Panasonic also has HDMI cables and scart leads etc which should not carry any power there is also a USB link to a hard drive. But the hard drive has it's own power source. There is no 'built in' recording hard drive but there is a facility to record onto a connected harddrive via a USB link (which has been installed, but like I said it has it's own power source). It's possible I missed something on the Panasonic so I had better check it again.
When I next check I will make sure what leads are there, and if possible disconnect them.
Both TV's switch from ON to standby instantly, and both TV's when pressing the on/off switch at the back or when switching off at the wall instantly drop to 0W (or 21W in the case of the panasonic using the on/off switch at the back) on the power monitor but the red LED light on both TVs stays illuminated for a good 20 secs or so before finally fading out (nothing unusual in that though probably just a capacitor slowly discharging.)0 -
I assume you have got the monitor set to Watts(kW) and not voltamps(kVA) some toggle between the two settings with the same button.0

It's something to do with power factor. But I will drop that subject from this thread - going off topic - will delete that post from this thread.0
