Back the OP, I'm very surprised that the dvla or local Police still aren't interested now the car's not insured or taxed. DVLA run a sceme called viper that makes it very easy to lift untaxed cars.
Wrong. I think you are still thinking of the old offence of Taking and Driving Away. T.W.O.C. superceded this and it means the vehicle only needs to be taken, which of course includes being driven as a means of taking.
To all intents and puposes this offence has been commited. Harvey needs to cover his own back now. Unless he has recently checked, the vehicle may have now been reported stolen. The reason it was appparently abandoned in the first place is not known. Someone may have been periodically checking it was where it had been left and has now reported it lost/stolen.
I would be inclined to report to the police, probably in writing what I had done. I would make it clear that I had previously reported the abandoned vehicle to them and the L.A. I would point out that neither of these authorities had taken any action in respect of removing the vehicle. I would inform that as a safety precaution I had removed it to my land for safe keeping.
This may or may not help Harvey obtain a free vehicle but it could save him a lot of grief down the line.
In the event of an owner turning up he could charge them a removal and storage fee. If he did the owner might post on the Parking thread about him. :rotfl:
On the other hand Harvey could just stay stum and take his chances.
Amendment.
Re-read the thread. I was under the impression Harvey had already removed the vehicle. Not sure now that he has done that yet. If not then my points above ought to be considered before such action is taken.0 -
Wasnt there a big thing recently abouit a gang of Asian 'yooves' in 'Lahndahn' going to the long stay car parks in Heathrow and picking out the dustiest cars, then doing as some have suggested? They were very successful but got greedy. They were sending off the reg docs presuming the owner had gone abroad for some time, when the docs came through they went straight to the dealers and got a key cut (using V5, passport and other ID) then going in and legitimately driving these 50K cars away! They were caught when the car park people started seeing them every day!'Just because its on the internet don't believe it 100%'. Abraham Lincoln.

Quick wash, polish, it'll be on the forecourt with "one careful owner" next week anyway.0

I'm not sayin what car it is incase someone knows about it on here lol. :P0

hmmm sticky one this - the poor car has been abandoned outside your home.
my first thought is - it isnt a stray dog or cat - you cant just adopt it!
you phoned the police who you say confirmed it wasnt reported stolen.
did they come around and check it?
is it locked up? strange smell around boot area? rear seat covered by a lumpy blanket?
any funny wires poking out? strange lumps on the underneath? do springer spaniels go nuts when going past it?
personally I wouldnt touch it with a barge pole - its not yours - it belongs to someone. and it may be a someone you dont want to pee off.0 -
The Police have been to see it. But done naff all about it.
Its not insured.
Its on the plublic highway - as the parking bays dont have white markers.
Its unlocked and full of all sorts of crap, like newspapers, cds etc.
It now has two flat tyres.0 -
its not down to the police harveybobbles - and you should know this, you report abandoned vehicles to your local council. I suggest you go on directgov site as it gives clear guidance on this.
and you claim to be a motor trader and dont know this! shame on you!0 -
Well if you read from the start you will see that I said...harveybobbles wrote: »Anyway, after a while I phoned the Police, who said to contact DVLA. DVLA said to contact local Council/Highways dept.

I then went on to say...harveybobbles wrote: »DVLA website and Motor Insurance Database all come back with matching and correct details, so it's not stolen.
