Abandoned cars in the snow Clamped!

Snow Chains are only ok where ALL of your journey is on snow, they have to be removed when you get to clear roads.!0

Exactly! Just think of the hold ups that would be caused by all those motorists stopping to take of their snow chains when they come to a patch of clear road. I think there is even a law saying that's it illegal to drive with with snow chains on clear roads because of the potential damage to the road surface. What part of "A whop bop-a-lu a whop bam boo" don't you understand?0 -
Shame the OP has not been back to let the experts help them, they may well have been able to get their money back.I'd rather be an Optimist and be proved wrong than a Pessimist and be proved right.0

Someone on pepipoo is posting about this http://forums.pepipoo.com/index.php?showtopic=47457
Apparently it was a private road and the residents are up in arms about RedRoute using the snow as an opportunity to rip off unfortunate drivers forced to abandon their cars. This is their blog http://redrouteclamping.wordpress.com/
Good for them, hopefully they'll be able to do something about it. As Peter has said, shame the OP isn't around anymore.0 -
I wonder if this is the same Redroute who operated fairly recently from an address in Bournemouth? The previous proprietor was declared bankrupt in September IIRC.
[EDIT] Try May 2009 at Bournemouth County Court
The PO Box address shown on a WHOIS is not a PO Box but a mail drop at Mailboxes Etc in Bournemouth. My very sincere apologies for those hoping to request off-board assistance but I am now so inundated with requests that in order to do justice to those "already in the system" I am no longer accepting PM's and am unlikely to do so for the foreseeable future (August 2016).
For those seeking more detailed advice and guidance regarding small claims cases arising from private parking issues I recommend that you visit the Private Parking forum on PePiPoo.com0 -

Sounds like it will be. I know they are based in Bournemouth. The owner is a guy called Richard Rippon. Interesting that he was declared bankrupt...0 -

there a no experts on this forum looking at the replys the op has had...It is nice to see the value of your house going up'' Why ?
Unless you are planning to sell up and not live anywhere, I can;t see the advantage.
If you are planning to upsize the new house will cost more.
If you are planning to downsize your new house will cost more than it should
If you are trying to buy your first house its almost impossible.0 -
That's only because there was nothing for them to do. If help is needed its there but the op has to put in a bit of work and give the details requested. In this instance the op did not do so and the thread went off at a tangent as often happens on here. Does not happen on Pepipoo as there are moderators to keep things in line and to make it easier for the OP to find the correct answers.I'd rather be an Optimist and be proved wrong than a Pessimist and be proved right.0

Sorry, the OP is back (after being out of town for Christmas)
and thank you very much for your helpful comments and advice, all of which have been passed onto my friend and others who have been in contact.
The additional links and sites set up for this incident are a great relief too.
I'm not entirely sure if the road is considered private or not. Its a residential area and access to a restuarant. He was parked on Waterside Gardens on the kerb and not blocking anyones parking place.
It looks as though the best route is to sue the land owner and the clamping company and to complain heavily to the council for allowing this to happen.0 -
It wasnt just snow chains though. I think the OP suggested her friend was low on fuel..We had all been warned of the conditions and part of those warnings was to make sure you had enough fuel, warm clothes/blanket and a shovel (maybe not chains) so I still think that motorists are partly responsible.
Probably the reason he wasnt concerned about being low on petrol was because town centre is only a 15 minute drive from his home via all major roads and was confident he had more than enough fuel to do the journey 3 times over. It wasn't until he had spent over an hour 'just to get out of the car park when it became apparent everything outside was at a stand still and he wouldnt have enough to get home.
To be fair I dont think anyone was prepared for the level of chaos and gridlock. We're talking 8 hours of traffic jams where by people had to vacate their cars just to find toilets!! Having been warned the snow was on its way he, like almost every other motorist that day, assumed the council was prepared (since the previous flurry) and had gritted the obvious routes in and out of town!
You might call them fools! But it was an emergency situation and the issue here is the lack of human compassion by the clamping company. But like most people have said they don't have an understanding of that!0
