Abandoned cars in the snow Clamped!

Absolute disgrace. Start a facebook campaign to destroy this company's reputation.
They're a clamping firm - you think they have a reputation to destroy?
Not much a consumer can do by way of voting with their feet, anyway.

Hi Tiddlywinks
He didn't think he'd have enough petrol to sit it out for hours so parked it up at the nearest street he could get to, others were doing the same thing and he made sure it wasn't obstucting anything or blocking a road etc.
There were still a lot of abandoned cars around today on curb sides and on top of roundabouts - they may only get £30 parking ticket which would have been better in hindsight!
But its the clamp fee thats the issue, so looks like small claims court then!0 -
Are they private roads then?I'd rather be an Optimist and be proved wrong than a Pessimist and be proved right.0

Looks like it was left in a carpark - http://www.theoracle.com/website/StandardPage.aspx?currentSectionId=a93aa899-08df-41cf-a55e-99726f792fc8&contentInstanceId=566861e7-b1ef-481f-875a-9187c93b2db70

Sorry wrong choice of words. What I'm trying to say is why not try and raise the profile of this story with the public as much as possible and as widespread as possible. I know it's their business to clamp cars but they may feel the pressure from certain groups which leads to them showing the compassion they should have shown in the first place.Idiophreak wrote: »They're a clamping firm - you think they have a reputation to destroy?

I wondered that, hence my comment about the £20.00 overnight charge. Then I ooked again at the text and it said:-biscuitdunker wrote: »
The cars were at the Holybrook near the Oracle
Holybrook is a small and tight set of roads
Until the op says whether they are private roads or council we can't advise correctly.I'd rather be an Optimist and be proved wrong than a Pessimist and be proved right.0 -
That's a good one.
I'm sure one really doesn't have to pay and they are trying it on, but I don't the legalities of this.
would also be interesting if this can be passed on to the council/road authority same as damage caused by pot holes etc.
NO EXCUSE for not keeping main roads treated.
how much warning do they really need?
Councils have been all over the news stating they are ready this year etc.
AA said they didn't have enough salt and the councils said they were wrong and scaremongering...and look what happens....
Getting caught out by a sudden snow fall - sure, but this was not sudden it's just been building up for days and days.
There's also a responsibility on the motorists though.
I've no idea how "prepared" your friend was but I've seen plenty of people this week trying to drive cars that are completely unprepared for the conditions that we have experienced - low levels of fuel, poorly maintained tyres, defective lights - the amount of people who don't know how to drive and prepare for snow is actually quite frightening. If the weather gets any worse, how many of us have snow chains for instance? Not many I'll wager.
I'm not usually one to defend local authorities, but they aren't the only ones to blame here. Comparisons with other countries are misguided as their cities are nowhere near as densely populated as ours. One car slipping in Helsinki or Oslo is something of a non event. Other here, the sheer volume of people trying to move about at any given time makes for a potential disaster.Hi, we’ve had to remove your signature. Snow chains? You're joking, surely? Yeah OK, if you live in some wilderness area, get some chains by all means. But I'm not about to get snow chains in north London. It's not the public and their cars which concern me, anyway, it's the buses. I saw a bus skidding down Highgate Hill sideways.
And anyway, it wasn't a local authority, it was a PPC! I don't think the PPC here was really trying to do us all a favour and make the world a better place by clamping innocent people who had to abandon their cars!0 -
The clamper vehicle seems to have managed to negotiate the roads and gridlock okay.0

looking on the redroute website they state in their enforcement policy that they will erect warning signs in prominant positions. I wonder if there was a redroute employee clearing these signs of snow so they wernt obscured at the time of the vehicles being abandoned? if not ,then they dont seem to have met the obligations stated in their enforcement policy. How could the people who were forced to leave their vehicles possibly know they were in a restricted zone unless the warning signs were clearly displayed?
they have an appeal process, seems to me, its up to them to proove they are in the right to enforce these fines.0
