we use a tin of tomatos (whole ones not chopped) in our spag bol..I blitz them with a stick blender to make them smooth. only costs 13p. :-)
i do this to, dont bother with buying passataDogs return to eat their vomit, just as fools repeat their foolishness. There is no more hope for a fool than for someone who says, "i am really clever!"0 -
A few supermarkets have started to do small tins of tomato puree for about 20p - I use this and water it down - ends up same as passata and cheaper than a tin of tomatoes (and nicer than a cheap tin of toms!) - just need to mix in a bit of sugar to sweeten it up0

My DD would never eat any tomato based pasta sauces cos she did not like the pieces of tomato tried with passata and now spag bog is one of her favs as long as onions very very finely chopped but thats another story0

I have made a vindaloo today - it tastes just a bit too vinegary. How can I offset the vinegar.

After having made HM pizzas with DD and DS for lunch today, we have almost a whole carton of passata left.
Please does anyone have any ideas of what I can do with it so it just doesn't sit in the fridge for a week and then get thrown out!:)
Thanks.0 -

Thanks.
Let down the passata with a little veg stock, finely dice some red onion/spring onion, and tear in some fresh basil.
Finish with a good lug of oil.

Use as you would tinned tomatoes - eg in a bolognese or other tomato based sauce, or a veggie/tomato soup.
It will freeze well if you don't fancy anything else tomatoey right now.0 -
Use it as a base for a sauce to go with pasta - with some saute'd onion, maybe some garlic, a few mushrooms - tuna if you like tuna, or some browned mince like a bolognese sauce.
It should freeze OK.
Use it with some pork (or pork sausages) and haricot beans to make a pork and bean hotpot - slow-cooked, throw in whatever else you like - onions, red peppers.
or have a look at bbc.co.uk/food/passata
Good luck!0 -
Hi Ginger Snap,
I use it mainly in bolognese sauce, lasagne or to make a topping pizza. If I have any left over I pop it into the freezer until the next time I need it.
This thread has some more ideas that may help:

I'll add your thread to that one later to keep the suggestions together.

Hi there
You can freeze it or if not why not batch bake bolognaise sauce and freeze that - will do for spag bol or lasagne
Otherwise - a base for HM tomato soup - if you can get cheap fresh toms - may be on super six at aldi
