Passata - how to use?

If you don't want to add cream, add some mashed potato to tomato soup. I add it to roast tomatoes with a bit of the potato water to make soup (with basil.) It's lush. (Delia recipe.)
I haven't tried to make soup with passata yet though so maybe I should just get lost and let someone else answer...:oMay all your dots fall silently to the ground.0 -
For tomato soup, peel and chop a few potatos and an onion and fry in some butter until the onions soften. Then add in some stock. Cook till potatos soften then add in the passata and maybe some basil if you have it. cook for another min or two and then whizz up to make thick tomato soup.
You could probably do a version with red lentils too..0 -
I bought some passatta at the supermarket cos it was on offer.............but I have no clue what to do with it

i use it wherever you would use a tin of tomatoes bolognese sauce, lasagne etc. I prefer it to tinned toms. I also use it as part of the liquid in soups and casseroles.0

Hi alimac,
The replies on this older thread might help so I've added your thread to it to keep all the suggestions together.

Whenever I make bol sauce using passata or tinned toms I always add a spoonful of sugar to sweeten up the sauce and a dash of Worcestershire sauce, along with onions, garlic, tom puree, herbs etc. I find it really adds to the flavour.0
-
Yeah the sugar tip sounds weird but I've found it does really intensify the flavour as well. Before I started doing it DH always complained that my tomato sauces didn't taste of anything. Now he loves them0
-
Sorry what I intended to add
is that it also makes a good pizza sauce. Put in a big saucepan with tsp salt (or to taste) and tsp sugar, tbsp olive oil and tbsp dried oregano and let it cook till nice and thick. The big saucepan is because otherwise it spatters all over your hob as it thickens.
