Travel cot as "normal" cot?

Slightly OT, sorry, but does anyone know to what age a travel cot will last until? My 10 month DD is fine in one at the moment. She'll be going to MIL's when I go back to work next month where she'll be having her naps in a travel cot. Will I need to replace the travel cot with a cot bed or put a side rail on a normal bed before she's 2 for example? I know it depends how tall she is, but can anyone tell me when their LO's were too squished in their travel cots please? Thanks

i stopped using a travel cot same time as i stopped using a normal cot

so 22 ish months for both my boys

though i know some people who put their children in beds as young as 12 months so a bed with a bed guard is a possibility

All the other reaons I'd have said have been covered except if your friend has a c-section she won't want to be bending over that low to put baby in travel cot during the first few weeks.

I read somewhere, while pregnant a coule of years ago, that they're only suitable for constant use up to 6 months. I'll be blowed if I can remember where I read it tho!! Sorry, that's not much help is it?!

Depends what type of travel cot some are the little moses type ones & of course you'll only be able to use them for a short length of time. The large cot size ones we used with my son until he was 2 when he stayed at my parents house.

my baby's 10 months old now but he slept in a moses basket for nealry 6 months and it wasn't any sturdier or thicker (mattress) than a travel cot. perhaps it depends on the weight of the child and a light/young baby is okay in a travel cot maybe.

my baby hates travel cots, well he hates the one the grandparents borrow when he stays over. the mattress feels too thin, he can feel the fold in the cot underneath his back. but he's a heavy child, weighs 25 pounds. i bought a travel cot a few weeks ago in a closing down sale for £20 but i can't see them online, maybe they don't make them anymore. it's a safety 1st one, plastic, it folds in half, dead easy. the mattress is thick and it's on the floor, no legs etc. so it doesn't tip when he's standing up. it's huge too, my 9 year old can climb in and use it as a playpen. he sleeps fine in the travel cot i bought, so i'd say it depends on what you're buying. the ones with a bassinet would be helpful in the early days after a section (or just if you're sore!) but i don't know how sturdy or comfortable they are for a larger child.

We have an indoor market (open everyday an new stuff only) I got my cot bed for £40 and was told I would get a mattress too, only was informed wrong so the owner of the stall let me have the mattress for half the price he pays so I paid £9, it was a good safety mattress too, and the cot was made by saplings and was in argos for £130.00......I got meself a bargain.

My youngest brother slept in a travel cot from when he was old enough to move around in his wooden cot - once he could wriggle around he kept forcing himself up to the sides of the cot and would repeatedly bang his head on the wooden frame. Health visitor advised travel cot as the soft sides wouldnt hurt his head and he slept happily in it until old enough for a bed. Didnt do him any harm!

my daughter was using the travel cot at her grandparents until her 3rd birthday, they have bought her a bed now !! we used it as a play/ball pit by day, it was also very handy for throwing things in at the end of the day.
We paid about £80 for it 5 years ago (having looked around you can get them for a fraction of that now a days !! but i cant find any that size) ..its up in the loft at the moment, hopefully will be making a 3rd appearance early next year.
