MSE News: CONFIRMED - OFT gives up bank charges battle

And by the way, Just for the record, please go back over my posts and take the time to realise that I never wanted solutions to my bank account. I came on here to join the debate. As far as I was concerned I didn't have any problems as such. you asked the questions, and I dared (goodness me!) to tell you why your way didn't suit my circumstances and what my circumstances were. I never came on here saying this is what my problem is can you find a solution. I came on here (AGAIN) to offer support to the cause. you're the one who started going on about my business. If i'd have wanted solutions to any problems I may have had what on earth would I be doing on this particular thread. Blimey! dare to say I don't want a bank account and battle commences. (by the way I note you didn't have an answer to the cheque cashing costs, could it possibly be that you were wrong?)
Thread seems to be the word here. with you pulling and pulling all because someone dared to have an opinion of their own.
I can't be bothered to continue this pointless nonsense with you as it seems the only thought is head, bang, brick, wall.
Time for everyone else to have their say. or god forbid will you seize and attack them too?
good luck to all and I hope there is some resolution soon which will be satisfactory to us all no matter which side of the fence we sit.0 -

Its not just the bank charges, its what they have done with peoples money, for every pound there is a pound of debt attached to it, we have been screwed twice over. and still we are forced in to paying our wages through their systems, and charged. They bankrupt the country, how can we possibly trust them with our money. they may be a business but as far as I know businesses go out to make money not loose it.0

Good luck to you arguing with yourself....it will be amazing.0 -
I was always taught that it is only people of low intellect that resort to swearing to try and make a pointnatweststaffmember wrote: »Now you are talking crap so when you start having an idea worth discussing then I will be happy to respond further. RBS balance sheet has more debt than the country has money fact. Why do we have bankers apologising on national tv?:A0

I am fed up of some assuming I am talking down to them (not recent posts). In reality I have been in their financial predicaments of having little income to stretch a long way, but I have never incurred bank charges or ever taken unaffordable credit (I offer opinion based on how I dealt with things and avoided the risks).
The whole case was bound to fall back to the courts to decide on individual merit. Whoever first started the campaign probably had a good cause and chance of success, but the masses who joined in were not in the same league.
Personally I can understand why anyone thinks £10 is more reasonable than £35 in charges, but I cannot understand why some are justifying their overspends in multiples of £35 instead of the difference of £25? The other main flaw in the reclaiming is the fact that people want not just the difference back, but also (legally) county court interest at around 8% (current accounts do not pay that much and realistically people should be asking for no more than the position they would have been in had lower charges applied).
On another thought - any campaign would have had a better chance of success if it focused on both sides of the field so to speak - those paying the charges and those losing more interest for having large amounts in their account (I'm not in either btw).0 -
We know there are a lot of good people out there that look after their finances, I am one of them. I never get charged as my DDs are arranged just after wages are paid in so I am always covered. Its the fact that it could happen even to those of us who are careful. This effects every one.
My brother was charged 20 pounds for going 1 pence over drawn, we went and argued he even offered them the penny there and then. They would not drop the charge, then he was told there would be a further charge next month, this is out and out theft. especially as they recieve interest on UODs in the first place. I argued on the grounds of appropriation, it was christmas they have 2 children under three, but to no avail, it was heart breaking.:A0 -

hi
thanks for your post, no joke, very very real, I am glad you are angry, because we should all be angry. This happened on a debit card which if there wasnt money to cover a transaction should not have gone ahead. The banks are creating circumstances were it is inevitable that people will be charged, then charging again as a penalty. disgaceful.:A0
