  • I've been doing something similar to this. Got engaged two years (jan08) and get married this coming July. We have a big terramundi pot that we've been putting in spare gold/silver coins (change etc). This will be opened just before our wedding as this will be extra spending money for the day & honeymoon. I also have a little penguin mony box that can be opened. In this goes all the bronxe & 5p's. Wehen full, it gets counted up, bagged and changed at the bank and the £1 coins go into the big point (we'll get more in that way). Every week for the past 18 months though, I have been putting my £1 lucky dip money for the lottery and just getting my own regular line. That way I should save @ £100 ish pounds!

I'm so excited about this challenge, I'm sure my family will think I'm nuts if I told them i've signed up to it :rotfl:

If they don't know about it can I spend it all on myself at the end of the year :A

    Thanks Chicky for starting it,

My biggest problem is that I use them a few times and then get bored with them!

I used to be the same with DVDs from play.com always went for the 50% off etc but tended to watch them once then shelve em, over a year and half I accumulated over 4000 DVDs and by that time there were so many I could never make up my mind and would end up watchin TV instead.

It just dawned on me one day how much money i'd wasted and swore I would always ask myself "Do I need it" before buying anything else on the internet and I havent bought a DVD since (well for gifts I have)..

    Can I join too please?

As it turns out, OH was given a giant savings tin which will apparantly hold 500 one pound coins. It'll be euro's for us obviously, but still.

  • I'd like to join as well, please. I already save £2 coins (I'm quite obsessive about them!) and put all 1p, 2p and 5p pieces into a large coffee jar. I then transfer everything into the credit union.

I'm quite good at not dipping into money saved, so I'll use a large coffee jar and every now and then I'll swop some pound coins for a note - then I won't have loads of £1 coins at the beginning of 2011!

I'm also trying the NSD Challenge, as well as continuing to save £2 coins, transferring money not used on DDs to my credit union account, and generally trying not to waste money! So hopefully a good financial start to the next few years!
