When you put your papers in to apply for a quarter just say that your son is living with you and attending college (they don't check). The paperwork usually gets signed by your families officer who invariably doesn't read it or know your personal circumstances and you get offered a 4 bed house. I put my 17 year old daughter down on the application form, who has always lived with her mum, and I have had 3 four bedroomed houses that I wasn't technically entitled to.
You may also have a case with your son having special needs and requiring a room of his own. Even better accompanied by a doctors letter stating that.
Blast I hit "Thanks" instead of quote and am not sure how to UNdo that
If your post is genuine and you really have done that, that is just so wrong. So very wrong. You are in a way stealing from the army and maybe depriving other families of being able to be together on a posting due to suitable housing shortage.
Just wrong.Thankful For My LBM

FYI - At my last posting my quarter had been vacant for at least 3 years and there were 2 properties left vacant for the 2 years I was there.
In my other postings there are always people occupying 4 bed quarters above their entitlement. I'm just playing the system to get what's best for my family.0 -

That is NOT ok. I am having a hard time believing that this post is genuine.Thankful For My LBM

thats not a great attitiude though is it?
How about playing BY the system to get only what you are entitled to, no more no less?
In my experience MQ are in shortage more than they are in abundance and stood empty.0 -
Thanks, last two postings have been stressful waiting to find out where we would be housed as entitled to a 4bed but none available. I knew people did this and disagree with it immensely, using children from previous relationships to gain extra bedrooms. Fine if you are actually seeing said child and they visit on a regular basis.
We have been in a 3bed house for last 16mths cramped to say the least, we have now since moved to a 4bed where life is much easier. I am dreading moving back to UK next year, its bound to be another housing dilemma.Mortgage

Sadly, people do do this and lie to housing...We are currently in MQ, 4 bed as we have two 14yr olds, a 10 yr old and an 8 month old and a 14yr old who visits for every school hol so 4/5 kids..our accom is too small so we filled in an 1132 to transfer to a much larger 4 bed (our curent property cant fit a 6 seat dining table or lounge furniture for everyone to eat together or sit). housing at aldershot asked us to notify them if we heard of any local 4bed MQ's coming up tht were large enough for our needs. We did this as we heard of a family been posted in a months time..after numerous calls to and fro to aldershot HIC, we were told the address had been placed on our file and when it came up for allocation we would be strong comtenders quote "unless a welfare case or someone with higher priority came along" Last week we called for an update as the family had marched out, to be told it had been allocated already to someone else. After a bit of digging, its another transfer from a family with 3 kids, aged 22, 19 and ten, the eldest supposedly married..they are also already in a 4 bed and have 2 kids LESS thn us..after phoning housing again, i was told it was a mistake that they had been allocated the house, however they cant now revoke the allocation so basically tough!! i have also found out their eldest son, 22 isnt living at home and on his facebook page it actuslly says he is married...which Im sure they havent told housing...
Housing admitted making a mistake however told me they cant revoke the offer even though he doesnt march in until 7th April..I have of course emailed the area housing manager with my findings as its plain WRONG!!0 -
Sadly people do either lie or are less forthcoming with the truth to gain a better house. Cookcuo's are everywhere within the system and sadly its difficult to sort it out. Betterment moves didnt help either.
Betterment moves are great if moving from an entitled house to a large entitled house ie living in a 3 bed moving to a larger 3 bed. But it throws all sort of spanners in the works. ie a couple with no children living in a three bed house. My line manger has a big house than I have, they have no kids to my 3 and their partner lives away........go fiqure.
When I tried to complain about Cookcuo's and people in larger than entitled houses I got the fob off from a high ranking officer who "advised" me it was being looked at.Proud to have dealt with our debtsStarting debt 2005 £65.7K.

You can also in certain cases get dispensation for dependants ie disability or illness. It has to be authorised but if a child has to live with you permanatly then they are dependant.
And it doesnt have to be child either, if one of your parents are widow/ed and they become ill and have to live with you, again you can claim the are dependant on you for support and welbeing. if approved they become a dependant.Proud to have dealt with our debtsStarting debt 2005 £65.7K.

hi, we are due to move to our new posting in Feb 2010 and my eldest son will turn 18 a week before.Could anyone please tell me what will happen with regards to my son as i understand the army will no longer take him into account when allocating a quarter. we also have a 10 year old daughter a 5 year old autistic son and a 2 year old daughter. my eldsest is in fulltime college so doesnt have any income and to be honest i still think he should be able to live at home with us. does anyone have any experience of this or advice? Thanks. we are currently in a 4 bed quarter are we likely to have a fight on our hands?
Once the child of a serviceman reaches voting age he ceases to be considered as a dependant, therefore cannot be considered when allocating quartering.
The exception to this is children in full time education, where they can be considered until 21, to take into account home visits from university.
You should note that once he ceases full time education the forces are within their rights to state that he has to leave the property and find alternative accommodation/0 -

Good luck with that :-) and even better luck with finding somewhere to live once you leave the forces. You will find that 4 bedroom houses in the real world cost a lot more than 140 pounds a month to rent, and that you may be grateful for anything you can get regardless of size0
