I am sure your arm will get better, doctors tend to fix these sort of things, unless it's been servely damaged!
HA! the problem is, when it has been severley damaged, doctors don't tend to fix things - in fact what actually happens is you get shoved to the bottom of the pile and left to carry on as normal! Not so good if your arm is severely damaged is it? You end up effectively in no man's land - no employer wants you, the benefit system is a nightmare and doesn't really want you and nobody gives a s**t either. Sounds fun to me I can tell you!
I love the "no-one is as worse off as me" attitude we have in this country. People often post on these forums to get general advice, and I think asking a question to see if one might be eligible to claim DLA is reasonable enough (Lou76?) Especially if a one time traumatic event has left you in a less favourable finacial position and you aren't able to work for a while.
Funnily enough, not many people understand the inner workings of the minefield that is the benefit system in this country - especially if you have not had to rely on the system before. I don't even think the highest of the heirarchical ladder bosses even know the full extent of how the benefit and welfare system actually works.
Having a broken elbow is absolutely nothing like having a broken arm. A severly comminuted elbow fracture can lead to extreme loss of motion, inability to turn the wrist, loss of hand movement, loss of finger movement, inability to lift, carry, write, drive - not to mention day in day out excruciating pain that starts to feel like it is attached to the entire one side of your body or the numerous operations and 'recovery' periods. It can result in major physical impairment which can almost certainly be classed as a 'disability' in a lot of cases.
Yes it is just a mere dot on the scale of what some people have to go through in terms of illness and disability, but it can still be disabling and I don't think people should be making people feel worse because 'they're problem is no-where near as bad as mine'. If you have a problem, you have a problem at the end of the day, where has the support and community spirit gone from this godforsaken hell hole? Looking after our own? Anyone remember that long gone dream?
It is already bad enough that most of the younger and current 'workforce' generation are force fed propoganda about how every benefit claimant is a scumbag work dodger. Funny then how every genuine case starts to feel like they are doing something wrong, and even ill people start to argue to the severity of another person's illness!
With all the painful changes on the way to the benefits system in the next couple of years, this is not the time to hound the genuine cases is it?
How about the lady you know living a few doors down that is in receipt of disability for 'her bad back', yet she seems able to drive, do gardening, shopping etc? Why not give her a talking to instead?
Yes a broken elbow may not mean that you s**t yourself in public, but it's not a walk in the park either, and the effects can last your whole life, so I really don't think people can comment in a negative manner on things that they do not understand.
Anyway Shabana, as far as I am aware, DLA has different tiers of allowance allowing for severity of disability - ie; mild, moderate, severe?
Try claiming anyway - I had a more severe version of your injury and I was advised to claim DLA by the DWP!!
Sorry if this sounds angry, but I'm just sick of people making people feel worse, life's unpleasant enough most of the time for a lot of people, why make it worse? There are plenty of non-genuine cases out there for people to hound if they are bored. They're not hard to find.0 -

DLA has nothing to do with working or anything to do with what money you or don't have.
DLA is paid to those who have care and /or mobility needs.Sealed pot challenge #232. Gold stars from Sue-UU - :staradmin :staradmin £75.29 banked
50p saver #40 £20 banked
Virtual sealed pot #178 £80.250 -
durr that's my point. I think having the use of just one arm would probably fall under the mobility category at least?
I was having a moan about the OP being hounded for asking. Not everyone knows the ins and outs of DLA as it is definitely not very straightforward and you get conflicting info from absolutely everywhere.

Having limited use of one arm would not lead to a DLA mobility award (the OP is still able to use her affected arm, just not to the extent of a fully able person).Gone ... or have I?0 -
When you get an award for DLA is doesn't make your disability go away - it does help you financially to get additional help
It must be very difficult for the OP as life is very hard for her. Hopefully, this is not a permanent disability but while it is with her it is frustrating and angry.
Don't be mean to people - she asked a question hoping to get some advice - she is currently going through a difficult time and surely coming on here the members should offer her support and not anything else.0 -
My sister only has one hand and she had to go to tribunal for a lower care award, she has no mobility award at all as mobility is to do with walking or needing help when out and about.0

Well, back in Feb.21, 2008 I fell down three steps @ a highly advertised club, not only did I shatter my radialhead but skinned my front right leg from my knee down to my ankle. (from the steel tips on the stairs) I also broke my middle toe on my left foot. No you will never get over this. You will lose all strength in your arm and your muscles will be soar and you will totally end up with limited range of motion.I fell in the dark (club was conserving energy) with in 10 min. of arriving.... I did not even have a chance to order a drink when down I went.:mad: Everyone says sober people fall hard but this was a big wow for me. Being a mother of two young autistic kids (1 and 2 years old) I immediately applied for all services and In home support services (I.H.S.S.) a program that helps you with house cleaning paid through the local county. My nightmare has not gone away nor haas it gotten better, in fact I have recently been diagnosed with R.S.D. google it .I have the severe est case the. Anyway I hope your situation gets better who knows.:):) I wish you the best ...by the way my lawsuit should be settle ing the end of this year...F.Y.I.:T0

I think most people in receipt of DLA would much rather not be entitled to it.:oAutism isn't the end of the world just a journey to another one:)
:eek:Why do people answer your questions just to be rude and unhelpful, don't like my question please don't answer:eek:0 -
