What are you doing to entertain the kids xmas hols?

Are most peoples kids like mine- finished school on Friday? A week off before it gets to Christmas Day with them going yampy with excitement, keeping them away from any Xmas presents and trying to keep on top of all the jobs you need to do, whilst entertaining them? :rotfl:As well as being skint cos of the time of year and for us hubby doesn't get paid till NYE.

DD is acting in a Church nativity tonight. Tomorrow I'm considering taking them into town as the local rag says there's a free 20 min High School Panto in the shopping centre and there's also a voucher for kids to have fish, chips and a drink for £1. As Mr S is away o/night (he said he def told me:rolleyes:) that will be tea sorted.:D The other thing I'm doing is digging out the monopoly board as I found a 2 hr game keeps the kids quiet at the table.;)

Mine are making xmas cards for grandparents by cutting up the cards we already have been given! lol
Lots of board games, making models out of the recycling, craft stuff.......... erm........ I am giving them a couple of pounds each to buy each other a gift and wrap it.
I have let the wrap gifts or friend up too.

Its hard though as they are so excited and seem to wind each other up!!!!!!

Free entertainment at the minute- it's snowing!
  • Today mine have built dens, made a slideshow presentation on the laptop, wrapped gifts, written cards, watched TV, played on the Wii and are now out sledging/snowman building.

Tomorrow we're grocery shopping in the morning and having friends round for Xmas crafting in the afternoon. Also have to take car in for new brake pads.

Tuesday we'll probably deliver Xmas gifts to relatives that we won't see on the day.

Wednesday we have DH's Xmas party for the kids in London, so will spend the day up in town.

Thursday I go out with my Dad and sister for Xmas shopping and a lovely lunch.

Today we've been to a Christmas craft event at a local museum, the kids made orange pomanders studded with cloves, Christmas evergreen sprigs using holly, bay, rosemary, mistletoe and fir tree sprigs.

tomorrow they will be baking at Grandma's (I'm at work)

Tuesday they will be making things, I got some stamp and fingerpainting sets from Home Bargains.
Wednesday we will go to see The Chipmunks Squeakual and for lunch somewhere.

It's easy to give in to that negative voice that chants "cant do it" BUT we lift each other up.
We dont count all the runners ahead of us & feel intimidated.
Instead we look back proudly at our journey, our personal struggle & determination & remember that there are those that never even attempt to reach the starting line.

we have a panto new years eve, and bowling booked for one morning, other than that it will be lots of walks, crafts and wii to keep them entertained until xmas, also staying with grandparents a few days gives me a break, and breaks it up a little for them.

Mine have played Lego quite well today (they're 9 and 6) then taken their Lego vehicles outside to see how well they work in snow! We've also made a few snowballs (only 1cm of snow here) and watched rather a lot of Top Gear.

I'm in a bit of a bored, grumpy, useless mood though so I could have made more effort with board games but I'll do better tomorrow! I did suggest the Wii but no one wanted to play with me :-(

I'll make bigger son do some trumpet practice then its James May for us at 7 closely followed by bath, stories and bed :-)

Ooops, I just concentrated on today! Well, generally throughout the holidays we'll pop down to mum and dad's, we go swimming quite a lot (got a season ticket) and hopefully we'll go to the cinema. The roads around here are AWFUL, can't remember the last time I saw a gritter.

Bigger son had a birthday party to go to this morning and he's got another one in the New Year. We've also got an ENT appointment for big and a paediatrician appointment for small, not very festive. Then there's the library.

Making a Christmas tree cake a la asda mag (cake cut into tree shape then iced with green icing and decorated with strawberry laces and smarties).

Re-do the tree at some point.

Stars to be stuck on their bedroom ceiling and wall (they can do the wall).

Done a wii game shuffle with friends (swap some games for a few weeks)

get them to help as much as I can and probably spend a great deal of time counting to 10...
  • Mine are a bit older but today has been church stuff, gift service, family lunch and christmas film and candlelit carol service tonight. Tomorrow visit one set of friends, Tuesday another set, Wed food shopping am and visiting sister pm, Christmas Eve retuning my mum's new telly which will be arriving on Wednesday! I find it's the few days between Christmas and New Year where we will get bored!

salt dough decorations for the tree/house, home made cristmas cards, paper cut snow flakes to bluetac to the windows, chrismas shortbread (tree or star cutters), paper chains, cut up old clothes that dont fit and sew into mini stockings for the tree (put a sweet in each),crackers out of cardboard tubes and wrapping paper (could personalise them with gifts and jokes), potato printing on brown paper to make wrapping paper - loads of cheap ideas!!
