I phoned ASDA CS this morning as my delivery is due on Wednesday, and I asked them what their policy is with regards to adverse weather. They assured me that they would phone on the morning of delivery to inform me if it was going to be cancelled.
Seems they lied, judging by these posts.
So sorry that some of you have been left in this position. I really hope mine isn't cancelled as I can't get to a store which is the whole purpose of my shopping online.Cheer up. The worst is yet to come - Mark Twain0 -
I got my delivery yesterday, no problem. We live in a village and the roads are covered in packed snow. Cheery driver said they were very busy but managing to get all the orders out on time.
I think it depends on which store your delivery is coming from, mine's Peterlee and I've never had any problems with the service at all, in fact it's exemplary.0 -
My ASDA shop turned up today despite buses not running to the village.
When Tesco were unable to deliver last year they gave us the option to collect from the store.
I cycled to work on Friday at 05.30, but wouldn't expect people to risk their lives.Been away for a while.0 -
MOVING THREADS FOR BETTER RESPONSES
Hi, Martin’s asked me to post this in these circumstances: I’ve asked Board Guides to move threads if they’ll receive a better response elsewhere(please see this rule) so this post/thread has been moved to another board, where it should get more replies. If you have any questions about this policy please email abuse@moneysavingexpert.com.0 -
It's not just if the roads near you are driveable it might be worse where they are....... or their drivers might not be able to get in.
You are one of the fortunate ones as you have a car-plenty of people rely on delivery because they don't or have disabilities and are now well and truely stuffed.
I take your first point but you dont know anything about my personal circs so please dont make such comments. I have a disabled daughter actually so dont really want to brave the Xmas shopping with her getting upset
To the person who asked which store, it was Stockton. I have spoken to the manager and the order has been hand picked and will be delivered this afternoon
so moral is dont rely on the main shopping helpline for info, try your delivery store instead0 -
I have had horrible service from Asda on this point! My delivery was scheduled to arrive between 1 and 3 yesterday. I live in Harrow in London.
At 4.00, I still hadn't had my order or heard anything so called Asda CS. They looked into it and called me back and said that the driver should have called but basically they were running between 1 and 2 hours late and the driver will call me to let me know when he expects to arrive.
Next thing I get is a call at 5.45 from the Asda store telling me the driver has just come back because the roads are too bad, and my only options are a refund or to come and collect the order myself. They refused to redeliver another day, were completely unapologetic and talked over me.
I then called Asda CS to put in a proper complaint and said I expected compensation - not because of the weather or the cancellation in general, but because of the lack of notice I was given. Apparently they were 2 hours behind from the first delivery in the morning - even though we didn't have bad weather here until the evening, they were backed up with redeliveries from Monday. I was told I almost definitely wouldn't get compensation, there was nothing they could do about it, sorry.
I will never be using Asda delivery again - they clearly aren't concerned with their customers. I've had similar issues with cancellations due to weather from other grocery stores in the past and they have always offered a different delivery slot - even if it means they have to lay on extra vans or put it in a minicab! - and am given at least free delivery on my next order.Comper and general cheapskate0 -

As annoying as it might be, it's been a tough week this week and today is expected to be horrendous!
I have worked 6 Christmases as an ASDA driver and the past 5 have been extremely busy with the vans full of heavy shopping including crates of beer! This year has been the same but with the bad weather conditions on top of it. On Monday I was on the evening shift (4.30 - 9.30pm) with my first deliveries between 5 - 7pm. I was still waiting for my van to come back from its afternoon deliveries at 6.15pm. By the time my approx 100 boxes were loaded on my van it was 6.40pm. So now I still had 9 deliveries to do still within their time slots!
I clocked off at 11.40pm!!
Last night was slightly different as me and another driver doubled up our loads onto one van (12 orders) to save having to wait for 2 vans and we were on-time for every customer! Clocked off at 10.40pm but every customer received their order and on time too!
I want to say a big thank you to all my customers who were very appreciative that I made it through to them, especially my last customer on Monday, who I didn't get to until 10.50pm!! All my customers were pleased to see me and I kept them informed of how late I might be.
Please, please think of us drivers before you ring to complain. And just to add, we get the same pay per hour as the checkout staff, the trolly guys, the greeter on their mic telling you the offers and the person with the sign at the checkouts pointing out where the spaces are at the checkout... and they don't get snowballs thrown at them!!!
Happy Christmas to all Home Shopping drivers (Asda, Tesco, Sainsburys & Ocodo. )
