  • this thread reassures me that there are other true money savingers out there who are grateful as i am for the tips and info where the bargains are to be had. My family have benifeted greatly this past year or 2 and we have had things that we would never have been able to afford. I always frown when posters are nasty with someone for the info they have taken time to post even if it is not the best deal or not what they would be looking for and i my frown appeared when posters even critisise this thank you thread. Happy Christmas to you all and may you all appreciate the info supplied by others that results in the full stockings by your trees on this Christmas morning.
  • yes - me too - I have so much to be thankful for on this site - the coupons forum has saved me literally hundreds of pounds since I started using them in March this year on supermarket shopping, free deliveries and discount codes and grabbit alerts. Additionally I have had advice on loads of things from knowledgeable people who just want to help from my new fitted bathroom/kitchen to my lost ISA and I have even won a competition on here (a billboard advert for my husband's 50th) and my son has too (be a Chessington world of adventure manager for a day)... roll on 2010 and thanks Martin and all posters.

I just wonder how we all managed (or not) pre MSE days. Too true. I for one had to use provident to get my kids xmas and spend the following year paying it off. Thanks to Martin and this great site those days are behind me now. Merry xmas everyone.
  • Moneysaving is not new. If you were brought up in a household that had very little money it comes 2nd nature to you to be frugal on how you spend it, even if you then get money you always careful how you spend it and can appreciate its not awlays easy to come by

The only think MSE has done is highlight and give advice on how to save money

Ummm no actually, I can think of plenty of households without much money and they aren't always frugal, how do you think personal debt got so bad in the UK!!! Sure, there are some naturally frugal people out there but they are not in the majority imho.

Anyway, I don't mean to have a go, just wanted to point out that MSE has literally been a life saver for some people and got them from negative to positive financially. :T:T:T:T

I didnt imply that all families are frugal I mealy gave my example and I am not alone and nor do I dispute many people are bad with money.

I dont have much money but dont blow it on unnecessary things I dont need and always shop for bargains. I know some people dont do that all I am saying is often if you brought up with no money you learn very quickly to respect it and look after what you have.

Debt is part of life the problem is some people cant handle debt due to poor handling of money, or circumstances change, loss of a job for example.

I was mealy trying to convey in my post that saving and being frugal isnt invented by Martin, some of us and I know plenty of folks are very careful with money. I accept the fact that MS has helped many people who otherwise may have bene in even more debt, and that achievement has been fantastic for them and long may it continue
