The decline of this once heavily used card (all of my spending) is spectacular after the swift cessation of cash-back.

Now it is reduced to farce as the final weeks play out. Apparently, I am a "valued customer who has chosen not to have marketing information" about Shell's new driver card details, so I can phone an 0870 number, or visit

https://www.shell.co.uk/driversclub

Which is not accessible !!

Quite why they can write to me about the fact that there's this new deal, but not write to me ABOUT the new deal escapes me.

So, I phone (free BT calls at weekends): the overseas call-receiver isn't clear about why I am phoning. He's only concerned with account queries. When he does understand, he's not interested. They can't deal with driver's club questions he tells me (so much for the valued customer please phone us line). Call the Driver's Club on 0845 .... .

Which I do. And guess what. Closed.

So much for valued customer. So much for Driver's Club. So much for a card I once spent thousands on.

Using the card one more time in January to use the remaining cashback. After that - closure.

What a pathetic shower.

I agree James. Which is why I am also using the card until the beginning of next year to make sure I get the last of my cashback, then I'm closing the account.

I looked into several credit cards: Sainsburys, Tesco, AMEX. I opted for an AMEX rewards card. Thought it gave better value for the sort of shopping we do.
  • Your all talking like cashback is a god given right, when its just an added extra on a card

And you're talking like we care what you think.

For crying out loud! What is it with people on this forum? They think it's their 'god given right' to be obnoxious, condescending and just plane rude.

We're discussing cashback cards and one in particular which has stopped providing it. It has gone from a very good cashback card to a very bad one, overnight. So of course people are annoyed and want to discuss it. This is a discussion forum, afterall.

We then started to discuss which cashback/reward cards we're replacing it with. Absolutely nothing wrong with that. And it has nothing to do with 'god'. If you have nothing constructive to add, or know how to be polite, go somewhere else to moan.

    Arrgghh!

I take your points but i have never seen anything like it. This board is littered with threads whining about the removal of this card. This suggests the card was quite profitable for a lot of people. I don't think it should really surprise people that with all the trouble Citi have had they are looking to close it down.

It was good while it lasted but for crying out loud it's time to move on ! :)

I wasn't being obnoxious, This thread reminds me of tescos change of coupon policy. It does seem you think its your right to have cashback on your credit card. I never mentioned anyone in general, I'm saying all cashback card threads people think its their god given right
  • Hi
We used the Citi card as our main spending card until recently, and also have the Shell drivers card as well, which is an extra points earning card when buying Shell petrol. This was registered online, and a couple of times a year they send us a voucher for money off shell petrol.

We had a letter yesterday giving us triple points on the shell drivers card from the 1.1.10, so I am guessing thats what they are trying to tell you.
