Who is this and is it costing me money?

Subbing. Had 4 texts until I googled the text number and sent STOP to it. Any chance of me getting the money back that this company has charged on my contract phone?
You have done the most important thing, that is to STOP the incoming texts. Hopefully they will now stop. I have to ask you this question, have you subscribed to any service, jokes, ringtones or such like? There is always the very small print. If you haven't then you are like many of us who have been scammed. These Cowboys buy up genuine customer lists from other companies. They all will deny that they have sold on such information as it's against the Data Protection Act. The other way they scam is that they generate random numbers, something that again they will deny but it is a fact.
E-mail the company that sent you the texts and demand the return of your cash. Tell them that you have not subscribed to any of their services. They in turn will point you in the direction of the content provider to refund you cash.
Go on the Phone Pay Plus web site and make a complaint, I know PP+ are a waste of space but once they have several complaints they will have to act.
Lastly make a complaint to your network by letter, they in turn will tell you that it has nothing to do with them. Your response will be that they have taken a share of the STOLEN (yes that what it is) cash, so they have a responsibility to you. Be firm with them.
Good luck & let us know how you get on.

I havn't a clue how they got my number. The only thing I can think of is the cashback sites in DFW. I've only had my contract since August, so possibly through one of those lottery sign up's which you get paid 1-2p.
I have already complained to PP+, just need to write to Orange about it.0 -
Has any of you got any calls about a prize draw? I just had a private number saying that I have been entered into a draw on Wednesday for £1000. Assuming that some company has bought my number, this smells SCAM to me althrough there hasn't been any demands for cash so far.0

If you didn't choose to enter a draw, it is going to be a scam 99.999% of the time. I heard of someone winning a car on a radio station when they had forgot they entered it.
Just don't ring them or give any details. And inform the operator of the call. Have you considered adding your number to TPS ? http://www.mpsonline.org.uk/tps/Although no trees were harmed during the creation of this post, a large number of electrons were greatly inconvenienced.

Wow didn't know there were so many replies, thanks. Well I've only had 4 texts altogether, and I've set up my account so I can view my itemised usage online - and I can't see any charges from these texts at all? Don't think it's too long until my bill comes in the post so we shall see.£2 Savers Club 2011 (putting towards a deposit

I've been receiving these texts from lottobytext as well. I haven't responded to any. They claim you will get 5 free lotto lines if you reply.
Just got another yesterday asking me to activate 5 free lines for the 113 mill euro lottery. Then I've received another message a while later saying:
'We are very sorry as we may have incorrectly charged £4.50 to your mobile from 85200
We will compensate you with £6. The next msg will explain'
The next message saying: 'By Wed 17th Feb you will get a text with a code to redeem your money from any Post Office branch. For further concerns call 02070810785. lottoby Text.
I've spoken to my mobile provider and they say I haven't been charged but I have blocked any third party text service to my mobile now.
Not happy that they still allow these crooks to run premium rate services.0 -
I have received the same 2 messages myself, how have you blocked third party service to your mobile?0

I got the same message, I emailed LottoByText and it turns out I'd mistakenly been charged for a free message. I have to say the lady in the office was very helpful, agreeing to provide a refund by cheque instead and making sure my number was removed from the database. Mistakes happen, it's nice when a company is so quick to try and put things right.0
