Who is this and is it costing me money?

Hi had three texts in a row today from '87121' called Lottobytext

Deleted two by accident but the first one which came through says 'Free mg: Thanks for your interest, please reply with WEALTH, to confirm your number and we will contact you if you win! Helpline 08447451791. unsub txt stop'

Are these texts costing me money? Who's sending them? Is it gonna cost if i text 'stop'?

Thanks

You can inform your network operator if these are unsolicited text messages, and ask if they are charging you.

The answer to your question is 'yes' they are costing you. How much? It can be anything fron £1.50 up to £5.00 per text.

    Details of who's sending them:

PhonepayPlus has the following information about the shortcode number 87121.
This is a text message service charged at premium rate. The types of services operating on this number can be ring tones, jokes, games tarot, chat, mobile internet services (WAP) and more.
    • The costs will vary depending on the nature of the service
If you would like to find out more about this service you should contact the company listed below.
Oxygen8 Communications UK ( Are well know for sending scam texts, try a Google)

If you want to log a complaint to PhonepayPlus online please click here.
    Alternatively, you can call our helpline on 0800 500 212 (Mon-Fri, 0800-1800).
To cancel a subscribtion service (services that charge a regular fee - for example £5 per week) you simply need to send a text with the words "STOP ALL" to the shortcode number (This will cost you another Premium Rate Text, my advice is to e-mail them)

From experience I can tell you that your network will be of little or no help at all. The reason? They can take up to 50% of the scam text charge as administration! Even worse is that none of the regulators will do anything to help us....

As Wantmymoney will tell you, not only do the networks take their cut, the VAT man (aka The Government) takes 15%(soon to be 17.5%) also Phone Pay Plus, the Regulator will fine these Cowboys companies. The Cowboys will pay the fines with same the money that they have scammed from us!!! That money is then used to finance the regulator, PP+, which is made up from representatives from the Premium Rate industries. Sounds far fetched but true....

Have I missed out anything W?

Subbing. Had 4 texts until I googled the text number and sent STOP to it. Any chance of me getting the money back that this company has charged on my contract phone?

As others have said, there is very little chance - everyone points to anyone who can help getting a cut of what scammers scam, so they don't help people people get their money back. Bad luck - if it was P&G, my advice would be to ditch the sim & cut your losses. Perhaps ask your service provider to block premium texts or worst case, change your number?
Certain OTT members have caused me to add this disclaimer: all advice given is free of charge & as such should be taken to be IIRC (as I don't spend hours researching all answers  )!
