Standard proposes to axe final salary pension scheme & introduce a career average scheme
There will be a consultation process with staff until Feb 2007 & action may be taken after November 2007.
This is part of a long journey from the profligate, heady days of mutuality when management got performance bonuses without ever producing a profit figure on which members could judge them
First the final salary scheme (free to all workers, paid for by policyholders) was made contributory .
Then it was closed to new employees.
And now this.
There are some interesting reader comments at the end of the linked article.
How does the scheme currently impact on shareholders and policyholders?
"..in April, in a vote and proposal pack ahead of the flotation of the group, Standard Life said that in order to reduce the staff pension scheme's £200 million deficit it would make an additional employer contribution of £50m in September.
This came from the initial £1.1 billion raised at the flotation. The company has also said that further additional contributions to the scheme of £10m will be made every six months, starting in December....."

We have had a steady growth since the launch of the shares, but it seems to me that the share price seems to be flattening out, or am I becoming a little twitchy?0

Hi lesmac and welcome to our Standard Life hideaway
,
A fair point, well illustrated.
Here's Credit Suisse putting out an "underperform" note on Standard
For anyone holding Friends Provident shares, Credit Suisse suggests these could "outperform" by comparison.0 -
I've just found out my bank (First Direct) charges for share dealing - £10 online, £15 on telephone - fixed charges. For me that's a fair bit cheaper than Computershare, but sadly maybe too late as it could take up to 6 weeks before they can sell them.
Computershare are the registrars for SL so may not be too quick at transferring
I don't think I'll be transferring, but this may be of interest to someone who's not in any hurry to sell, depending on holding.0 -

BEST ROUTE TO TAKE TO SELL SHARES??
This question has probably been mentioned before within the 520 odd messages left!!!!!!
The situation is we are moving house soon and could do with the extra funds.
Can anyone tell me,
1. The best place to sell them.
2. What are the fee`s involved.
3. How long does it take to receive your money.
4. Any other info I should know about.
Many Thanks

Have you got a share certificate?
Have you got a largeish share holding?
Have you got an account set up already with an existing internet broker?
If the answer to the above three questions is "no" then you may be best going through the Computershare selling process on the net which charges 0.5% commission on the sale proceeds.

You should get your money within about three weeks.
With a large holding it may be best to get a share certificate from Computershare (cost £15) & set up a dealing account with a cheap online brokert for a flat fee of, say £12.50).
But this will take time & effort.0 -
With Christmas just around the corner, I guess many of SL shareholders could sell to fund the festive season/pay CC bills.
I'm still holding but I don't know why!
