• TMB Link - Lambertus de Boer agrees with Sunil and Ian that you can't trust what the French say

AXA Rules Out Big UK Acquisitions - Must Be Happening Then ;) .... .......

See post #5 on the link.

A bit of background. Bert was a very senior Standard Life employee in the Canadian division but has quite a grudge against his former employers. He currently works in investment finanace, and is no-one's fool.

His thread about shennanigans in the Canadian division are legendary and a certain cure for insomnia ;) e.g.

Legal Defence Fund Appeal v Standard Life Canada - Part II

And if that doesn't work:

Pinochet's daughter and the Standard Life connection via Bermuda

God just read a bit of it and then realised it was 2001 :D so wht was the outcome??
• I'm not surprised you didn't finish.

You need to get to page 15 of the thread to find out ;)

Our company appears to have won and been awarded damage of over $1m.

I think we are also currently in the clear over any Pinochet money laundering allegations.

IIRC it was the Canadian part of the business that underperformed in the last set of results.

Friday saw a bit of a side in the shares to end at 286.5p

Nominee shareholders win rights

" Thousands of investors have finally won basic shareholder rights, following the completion of the Company Law Reform Bill's passage through Parliament on Wednesday......."

So those who hold their shares in the ComputerShare nominated account will be able to receive company information, eg the Report & Accounts as well as vote and speak at next April/May's AGM :). :j

Private investors holding shares via nominee accounts, rather than in certificate form, has become the norm.

So it's astonishing that it took this long for our legislators to catch up with the consequent loss of accountability and democracy.

I see there is now talk of a "merger" with the well known zombie fund ResolutionLife

That should perk up the share price tomorrow.;)
Trying to keep it simple...;)
• IIRC this is the outfit that tried to get their hands on our company before flotation for the equivalent of around £2 per share .

I went to Computershare:
Computershare - Internet Dealing Service Due to planned enhancements to our service, access to the Share Dealing Centre will be unavailable from 5pm Friday 10th November until approximately 7pm Sunday 12th November.

We apologise for any inconvenience caused.

So that'll be that for now, then :)

I will believe it when I see it - even though the bill is now an Act, this part does not come into force for a couple of years.

Though of course, stockbrokers/ComputerShare are welcome to introduce these features earlier!
Private investors holding shares via nominee accounts, rather than in certificate form, has become the norm.

Its more and more common - mainly due to the fact that you have no choice for ISA and PEP accounts but still only just over 50% of shareholdings are held this way (rather than on paper)
So it's astonishing that it took this long for our legislators to catch up with the consequent loss of accountability and democracy.

I'm surprised (though pleased) its happened so soon - the Companies Act is hardly ever comprehensively updated (i.e. 1948, 1984 etc..)

Regards
Sunil
• Yes, it is going to depend on the companies in the meantime.

Standard has led the way in supporting small shareholders (even if for reasons like warding off unwelcome bids). Could it lead the way here?

I guess it's unlikely because it would be costly to do it while there are still so many small shareholders hanging on until July 2007 and the bonus shares.

Yahoo

Standard shares up 1% (3p) to 289p on the news but Resolution soars by 4%.

Nothing much here to force bugbod to change his original plan.
