But issuing those extra shares could dilute our holding by 10p per share - and June/July/August is also likely to see volatility caused by retail investor sales.

At what stage does the market factor the issue of those extra shares into the Standard Life share price. From the outset? From now? From the New Year? In June 2007?

I am assuming that the additional shares have already been issued and Standard Life is just keeping them 'in reserve' in some sort of internal Treasury account (as companies do when they have to pay share options/employee share schemes etc) to send out when necessary - after all everyone knows roughly how many will be issued, so the markets will have priced them in now but the price will get lower as many ppl will be looking to sell at once..

  • Agreed.

But in practice it doesn't really matter whether they were issued or will be issued. And it is a moot point that "everyone knows [or knew] roughly how many will be issued".

If you look back in the thread, several commentators and analysts were worried that retail investors might have dumped their shares en masse in early dealings.

Because that didn't happen, there is more certainty now ( unless we get a "Black October" 2006  and then all bets will be off ).

Just a quick question if anyone can help

I have just been sorting through paperwork and found the form to fill in to claim your shares. We have so much carp off them I had filed the envelope unopened  OH was awarded 197 obviously we have missed the deadline.

    Have we lost our shares?

I'm fairly certain the answer is NO, they're keeping x 000,000's of shares for a couple of years that are unclaimed.
I'd ring the numbers on the letter first thing and find out what you need to do to claim them.

Just think all that krap you read about how your money wasn't doing well and the first time they write to you to give you something - you don't open it! DOOOOH!!

No, you are still entitlied to the shares. Standard Life will keep them for you for upto 10 years before you would finally lose them.

In July, Standard Life actually announced that 320,000 customers had to claim £300 million in shares (around 5% of the company!) so you are not alone!

Call 0845 275 3000 and they should be able to help you claim your shares.

    Thankyou both so much

OH will call them today, I won't be doing that again ;)

Edited to add OH just called it was really simple to sort, shares will arrive in 3 weeks
  • Oh so close. With a daily spread of 265.25 - 271.50 it's a bit of a gamble just letting the shares go and relying on the deal being done at a good time during the day of sale.

With the FTSE-100 falling, SL's rises are all the more impressive. I think I'll sell before the week's up - probably Wednesday pm providing we have 2 days of closing at 270p or above. With 2020 shares to sell (excluding Mrs GG's allocation) that should return £5,400. Replace the £2K that I used for additional shares and a net return of £3,400. Not quite half of my new car but a nice contribution.

Word of warning. With the exception of Friends Provident, any shares that I have sold have usually rocketed over the following few months. May be worth keeping your SL shares until that elusive takeover bid is announced 15 minutes after I sell.

    :)

Since it represents a gain of a straight 50p since launch, £2.685 might be said to be a sort of psychological resistance level for the SL. share price.

Also, so might £2.70, since it is a 'round number' and the same for £3.00, etc, etc. Indeed, one can go on and invent one's own numbers of this sort.

Anyhow, £2.685 and £2.70 are very close to each other and there did seem to be a bit of recent resistance at this level.

Nevertheless, the share price has today sailed through £2.70 and so it has breached that old resistance level. But, despite the FTSE index doing a bit of a negative wobble, we have the SL. share price going more positive for us.

And so it is 'on to the next'. The share price is trending upwards.

One has to say, and with some confidence too, "£3.00. Here we come!"

Has anyone used Computershare? If so, did you find it fairly straightforward?

I went to register just now, but it seemed that if I did, they would sell my share straight away. Is this the case? I'm confused.
In the blurb they say the sale is instant, but elsewhere they say you need to send your share certificate.

    I expect I've read it wrongly.:o
I'm not really stupid, honestly. Just completely green.:D
