There was no accident / incident that I am aware of at any Craft Fair such as the one you describe and much less any insurance payout as you have mentioned and seem to know so much about. As to how you know this, I can only be curious and feel you have used a large degree of 'atristic licence' and imagination in making up your story, as there is no way you would have even had access to this information even if it had of been true- which it most certainly is not.
There is one small element of truth in your story however and that is that Nick McGarry always insisted on ALL exhibitors having Public Liability Insurance as indeed do most reputable people or companies organising any such events.
I would appreciate it if you would correct any inaccuracies and misleading information contained in your post, which in fact is most of it, and just for the record Celtoi Designs ARE still going strong and in fact doing extremely well.
As a fairly new addition to the forum and not wishing to step on anybody's toes - can I just make the comment that I did not read any negativity on the part of Celtoi Designs into the earlier comment.
I think they were merely trying to state the case for taking out Public Liability insurance for crafters. In fact, if anything Celtoi Designs came across as a responsible seller for having taken out the insurance in the first place.
Perhaps it is just one of those 'urban myths' that can arise and the name of Celtoi Designs became attached to it. If I was told this, I would have no reason to question the details as being true, at the time I was told them!
Just my observation of the anecdote !0 -

I SIMPLY MEANT BY NEGATIVITY THAT THESE MATTERS SHOULD BEST BE KEPT BETWEEN THE TWO POSTERS CONCERNED. THEN IF IT HAS BEEN A CASE OF "urban myth" AS YOU PUT IT THEN IT CAN BE SETTLED AND CORRECTED IF NECESSARY.ive got the craft bug, watch out its catching!!!;)0 -

Feeling a bit better - anyone for garlic oil and cider vinegar - thought not, but thats the homeopathic remedies, plus am off wheat awaiting the results of blood tests!
Anyone thinking of doing craft fairs without insurance should look to the example of 'Celtoi Designs' not sure if they are still going or not, but two great guys who decided to make afew mirrors and lamps to sell at craft fairs - thankfully Nicky McGarry who was running their first craft fair at St Georges Market insisted they take out insurance. As they parceled up their second sale, a lamp the child with the customer just touched (or hauled) a mirror on the display which fell and hit her on the head - the mirror was considerably bigger than her, as was the insurance payout considerably bigger than their takings that year!!!!!! From what I remember the child was not bleeding, knocked out or anything and certainly made a full recovery - or perhaps she is still terrified to walk past mirrors, I know I am, but possibly for different reasons!:beer:harleygirl wrote: »I agree, and if you know Smokiewater she would NEVER say anything which she thought was untrue.
I see from your post that this is the first time you have posted on the forum so I presume you are a 'looker'
I have no desire to create negativity on this forum, i was simply correcting an earlier post made by someone that was defamatory and untruthful. "harleygirl" despite your knowing "smokiewater" I can absoutely guarantee you that the information posted was completely untrue and as I said bordering on libelous. This is a public forum and people have the right to post what they want, including a 'looker' like me, but the rules state that posts must not be libelous.
I agree that this may be best sorted out privately, however the comments were made in a public forum for all to see and this has the potential of damaging the reputation of my VERY successful business and one that I have spent many years of hard work building up. It is important to me that the comments made were addressed and clarification given, so as to prevent my repuation or business suffering.
Also I have no idea who "smokiewater" is much less have I any idea how he/she could be such an authority on my business- ie the comments regarding the so called insurance payout and yearly takings.
Just for the record "harleygirl", perhaps before you called me a "looker" you might have checked that I in fact only found and joined this forum today, perhaps a reasonable excuse for me to have only made one post!- so much for you observing the 'be nice to all Monerysavers rule'! Given the tone of your response though, I wonder why anyone hangs around here long enough to make second posts!
Perhaps though "smokiewater" may respond and clarify the matter, so that this matter can be laid to rest and we all can get on with getting ready for the busy Christmas season.0 -
HI THERE
I SIMPLY MEANT BY NEGATIVITY THAT THESE MATTERS SHOULD BEST BE KEPT BETWEEN THE TWO POSTERS CONCERNED. THEN IF IT HAS BEEN A CASE OF "urban myth" AS YOU PUT IT THEN IT CAN BE SETTLED AND CORRECTED IF NECESSARY.
I agree, I was trying to say that as an outside observer I hadn't read the original post as having any negative impact on Celtoi Designs and therefore they should have no reason to either. If anything it showed them in a postive light as being responsible enough to have taken the insurance out in the first place.
But your right, maybe this forum isn't the place for others to discuss it - not what the forum is for after all.0 -
I know this is a public forum and anybody can read the comments so therefore I agree that the sooner the matter can be put to rest the better. harleygirl is a great girl and i must jump to her defense here...shes one of the best and didnt mean any harm!!!!ive got the craft bug, watch out its catching!!!;)0

Totally agree, it really showed Celtoi Designs in a positive light:T, I know that I have insurance from market traders association, and that im covered for loads, including all my stock being destroyed by mmmm accidental damage, it can so easily happen!!
But to totally change the subject, HMRC can inspect ANY craft fair as can customs and excise people you can be interviewed under caution at a craft fair, so to all make sure your registered with HMRC. This also applies to the southern market, the TAX man down there wants his cut also:) its calculated @ 21% ( i think) for southern fairs.....Be aware of this!!:jIm going to be frugal:j:DIm going to be frugal:D;)Im going to be frugal;)Beetlejuice Beetlejuice...................:rotfl:0 -

I know your a new poster, and im sory that some information that was given was wrong, but Harleygirl is a lovely lady as is Smokiewater......I havnt posted on here regularly for a LONG time as there were newbies coming along and giving me dogs abuse, also sending me pms with lots of dogs abuse, It was truely horrible....This thread was amazing, and some are still trying to make is the way it was before, I still come on without logging on for fear of the next pm from someone who says they know me, know where i live etc.......newbies all get a wide berth, from a lot of regular posters:o But I can say this its a great guide to fairs and events, and general advice.
Perhaps though "smokiewater" may respond and clarify the matter, so that this matter can be laid to rest and we all can get on with getting ready for the busy Christmas season.
What im saying is, Harleygirl and smokiewater are a big part of the thread, and I know that niether would step on any toes or set out to offend anyone:A:jIm going to be frugal:j:DIm going to be frugal:D;)Im going to be frugal;)Beetlejuice Beetlejuice...................:rotfl:0 -
