My new job - Problems with Boss

I would advise anyone who is in the situation to get out now. Thankfully, I've put that behind me and had some great jobs since, and I'm much more myself now. Mine started very similar to what you're describing, nasty comments, not helping, ignoring me and generally being rude. It ended up with them telling me I should change how I look because men looked at me, saying I was lying about being ill when I had a doctors note, rejecting holiday requests for no reason, telling me I had to work late everyday, the list goes on!
I handed in my notice after finding a new job and actually ended sooner than I should of because of my doctor being worried about me. It came to a head when I was told I couldn't have an afternoon off to sign all the final papers for my first house. I walked into work, gave reception my sick note and got the hell out of there. I have never felt such relief ever and had such a weight lifted off my shoulders. I then wrote a letter to HR telling them what had been going on and both managers were investigated, once I did this it turned out they had been doing it to everyone and they ended up leaving the company.
People like this do not deserve having a managerial job and you shouldn't put up with it. They seem to think because they're a manager they can treat everyone how they want, and talk to everyone how they want.
Don't let it get to the point where you become ill, if you dont have a mortgage etc to pay, get out of there now.
I am currently looking for a job and will get out of there as soon as I can...Bank Charges won £4,800 in 2006 From LloydsTSB

just to update MSE'ers. I handed in my grievance early november....heard nothing yet. Doobie- I have found my union, Unison a massive help. I would really recommend joining one.
Good luck in the search for a new job:beer:
Please remember that the problem is in their heads, not in the work you do. And we can leave work!!0 -
I am restarting this thread due to something that happened this morning at work. My supervisor was in a bad mood (again) so I just kept my head down and got on with my work, her friend from another dept came in, they went into an office and had a chat, she came out in a very bad mood and shouted at me and this other girl I work with for chatting and not working, which was rubbish, i had work in front of me and just happened to be drinking some tea at the time. Doesn't mean we weren't working! I got in a mood and slammed my cup down and she told me she wanted a word with me. She told me that she was fed up with my attitude and she was aggressive. The build up of the last few months made me burst into tears, I tried to tell her how the atmosphere was getting to me and she said I needed to toughen up to work in the motor trade. I told her she was rude and she denied this, I told her how I was upset about it all. She then told me that some of the directors had complained about me cos of my chatting (which again, i stress I do not do) and she was trying to protect my job.
I'm on probation for another month, however the girl who has also had enough has told me she wants to make a complaint aswell, she's just moved departments. I was hoping you guys could show me the way. I have been keeping a diary of the office, even when she has a go at someone else, I've written it down. I want to start a disciplinary against her for bullying, but I'm so apprehensive as I'm in probation, and although I'm not that worried if they give me notice, I don't want a bad reference for it. I'm so confused, still abit upset about this morning and don't know what to do...
Please help me!
If you want something done, either leave or make a formal complaint. But you need to do it rather than complaining on the internet about it.0 -
Easy to say SDP but not so easy to do- and the evidence needed for a formal complaint takes lot of time to accrue0

Hi all,
It got so bad on Monday I could take it no longer and walked out she had ignored me all morning and snapped at me if I asked anything. She also threw a file at me!
I've made an official complaint and will wait to see what comes of that, I've got some backup there, if they actually include them in the process two of my colleagues will verify what has been going on.Bank Charges won £4,800 in 2006 From LloydsTSB

I don't think that people like you should comment on posts if all you can do is be negative. And I was looking for advice, not complaining! :mad:Bank Charges won £4,800 in 2006 From LloydsTSB

If your not the only one been mistreated by her you can start building up a case.
My OH has just been through a similar situation where her immediate manager is incapable of managing people. She was building up a case and along with a couple other workers they told the GM what was going on.
Result is that when my OH's manager returns to work after been on holiday he will be getting shown the door.
If you don't fight it at this stage whats to stop every person who takes on a job under your manager getting the same treatment. Why buy when you can win!

I hope your complaint works and she is either disciplined or fired... but I wouldn't bank on the 2 existing colleagues to speak up as well, they may just want a quiet life and to be kept out of it, especially if they've been there less than a year.

Your boss sounds like an incompetent fool who throws tantrums and terrorises people in order to cover up her own shortcomings. People like this make me mad, especially when their seniors are too scared or lazy to deal with them. I feel very sorry for you and hope you can find a happier position somewhere else.0
