BT broadband query - restricted bb access???

We have received an email from BT saying that we have downloaded 80gigabites for November and as such our access is now restricted.
We have a PC and a laptop. I use it for internet browsing and shopping, OH plays some computer games which are not online. He has downloaded an album but we cant think of anything which would add up to 80gb
We are wondering whether the fact that the home phones are on the internet line is contributing to this?? We have 4 hub phones.
Im seriously fed up with BT anyway, it was OHs choice to have them because he wanted unlimited downloads (ho ho) and so I feel we completely overpay for our broadband. We're in an 18mth contract (since June) with BT anytime, yet the bill is about 60quid a month for bb and phone, whereas really i thought the phone would be about 20ish and the bb was to be 26.
thanks

hi r u on option 3 then u have unlimited downloads i would phone them and ask what is happening0
-
yes, its option 3, firstly we cant understand how we are supposed to have downloaded this amount, secondly, yes, its unlimited so what does it matter how much they say we have downloaded.
we will phone them but its OHs account and he cant face talking to them until Saturday as he doesnt want to ruin tonight and tomorrow's evening with a row with BT!0 -
BT broadband option 3 has an upper limit of 100 gb a month
If you go over you get restricted to a 512k speed til next month
From what you say you use then its unlikely to even come close to 100gb so check your wireless is secure.
The broadband talk is not included in your usage so that can be ruled out
BT fair use team number is 0800 707 60440 -
thats seem alot i have that option and work from home 7 days a week & have kids downloading albums, online gaming etc but have never had that email there must be a mistake there somewhere. We have received an email from BT saying that we have downloaded 80gigabites for November and as such our access is now restricted.

thanks, yes, the email actually says december, not november, so thats half of a month for 80gb, im worried now that our internet is not secure, how do we check?0
-
right, i have checked with the fair usage people and she said that up until yesterday we had used 94gb. she said novembers was 37gb and up until then (from june to october) it was about 10gb per month.
she said that we could ask the technical people to reset the home hub, so i will get OH to do that.
i said i cant understand how someone is using our broadband because it has the padlock picture next to the source on the 'services in range' thing, plus we have firewalls and the system is passworded, so how would this happen??
the only thing that chnaged in november, is that we did get a new hub. our 1571 service for the internet line sounds like a dalek underwater, so we rang up to get them to fix it as you cant often hear what the messages actually say. stupidly, their response was that we obviously needed a new hub (this is nonsense) but had to thru the rigmarole anyway. so we had installed the new hub, but its passworded just like the old one0 -
wireless passwords can be cracked if someone is determined not to pay for their internet access. can the home hub tell you what/how many devices are currently attached to the wireless network? if there are more devices than you have, then someone is leeching. maybe change the wireless password to be on the safe side.0

You should alwasy change the router password on install, never use the default one provided. Also check that your encryption is WPA, not WEP (latter is easily crackable). No free lunch, and no free laptop

thanks, have suggested OH check whether we can see the devices on our hub. but he did say that you cant change the wpa or wep thing, that its set??? i dont know
what we have done is install net meter, i have a feeling that its BTs mistake0 -
