BT broadband query - restricted bb access???

right, OH is off to see if he can find out how to check the hub for devices as he has no idea.
BUT he has just reminded me that it would probably be very difficult for someone outside this house to get a signal from our hub. reason is that during the summer when the weather was nice, i used to sit outside with the lap top. most of the time i was disconnected, connected, disconnected and so on. the signal was too poor to carry through to the garden.
in addition, i cant use the lap top in the bedroom because again the signal is too poor.
so how someone even next door or over the road could be using our signal is beyond me???????0 -
right, just checked the hub, we only have our own devices connected to it, obviously we will check for the next couple of days too, but i do believe its unlikely that anyone is hacking into our system, i think its more likely that the hub we got in november is faulty or BT has made a mistake0

Probably worth mentioning one other possibility: You could have some sort of malware or virus on one of the computers that is continuously downloading stuff in the background without your knowledge.
It's unlikely but you should probably keep it in mind.0 -
thanks, have suggested OH check whether we can see the devices on our hub. but he did say that you cant change the wpa or wep thing, that its set??? i dont know
what we have done is install net meter, i have a feeling that its BTs mistake
WPA is OK. But yes you can change it to whatever you want, in partucular you can change the default encryption to a unique one of your own.
Perfectly possible for someone across the road to pick up your signal even if you can't get it in the back garden, that is fairly typical of wireless. No free lunch, and no free laptop

The unlimited package does not have a usage cap.0 -
we have now received a new email saying that our usage will definately be restricted for next month as we are now over 100gb
OH rang BT this morning. apparently between Friday when I rang and it was 94gb and saturday when the email was actually sent, we have gone over the 100gb. that means over 6gb in 2 days, one of which we were not even in.
BT are not even able to tell us when or what was downloaded, for what days or times or anything. so wherre is their evidence that this amount is being used.
we have now changed the hub password. we have checked the devices on the hub, still only ours. he will complain but in the meantime our usage is clearly gooing through the roof
i have tried clicking on the BT reps name to send her a PM but it doesnt do anything, am I able to contact her on this site at all? she hasnt replied to this thread yet0
