loss of wirless connection

laptop wont connect to my wireless adaptor(netgear) been working fine till today, kids cant play on xbox live upstairs either says no connectivity, any ideas please? thankyou

Can you access the router that serves the connection? If so, but have no internet access, then the problem lies with either the router or the phone / internet connection. If you can't, then the problem lies with the router.

Try switching it off and back on again - the fall back of all IT support calls Last night, for some reason, my modem stopped working. Switched it off and on, works fine now.

If nothings changed at all id hazard a guess your internet provider has a fault somewhere. Can you not phone them to find out?

my pc works fine so not internet problem, just not connecting to the wirleess stuff, laptop/xbox

As above then. Turn everything off then on again.
If that fails to work youll probably have to RESET the router and put all the information back on it (security and password etc)

Is the wireless light on the front of the router lit up? Sometimes my laptop drops the wireless connection. If you right click on the wireless icon on the taskbar of their laptop and click 'Repair' it may reset the connection. Otherwise, try unplugging the router to reboot it.

yep wireless light is on, tried turning everthing off, still not connecting gutted cause the kids love thier xbox live! not sure what else to try now

Just trying to get the exact problem - this is what I think you've said...

- Router is switched on and connected
- PC is switched on but does not connect to the router via wireless.

From that, I am assuming that the PC is saying that it is not connected, rather than you not being able to access the internet.

Does your router allow you to connect via a cable, or is it just wireless? If so, then try it with a cable and see if you can connect to the internet.

From the PC, can you try to discover wireless networks around you - does your turn up?

On the back of the router will be a RESET switch
You need to hold that down for 30 seconds with it powered up

Youll then need to 'log into' the router to put the settings back in (Take into consideration that once its reset you probab;y wont be able to use YOUR computer till youve reconfigured it)

it does connect through cable, pc is working fine as usual, the problem is the laptop cant pick up the wirless connection from the router, or the xbox, not sure how to discover if i can pick up wirless stuff from pc?
