Cancelling O2 contract

I’m hoping someone can offer some advice here

I have been with 02 for many years. My previous contract was due to expire on the 28th of November. I was eligible for an upgraded handset in my final month of the contract so on the 29th of October I upgraded to an iPhone on the 02 website.

A couple of weeks later at work I was given a Blackberry. Last week my manager commented that I could use it for personal use and suggested I cancel my personal contract with O2.

I logged into my profile at 02 and I see that they’ve put me on a new contract effective from the date that I ordered the iPhone so my question is what options to I have for cancelling my O2 contract? I imagine my chances are slim but I thought I’d see if anyone has had a similar experience.

    For upgrades in store

I upgraded in a retail store, can I return my handset within 14 days?

When you upgrade your existing contract in store you do not have a cooling off period therefore you are unable to return the handset.

I have upgraded to iPhone 3G via the O2 website; what happens if want to return the iPhone?

You automatically get a 14 day cooling off period if you upgraded online; this can be used to return the handset.

If you are not entirely satisfied with your purchase, you may return it to us within 14 days from the date of receipt to obtain a full refund or exchange. If you have used the phone you'll still have to pay for any pro-rated line rental amount and any charges outside of your allocated allowance.

If done in store you cannot cancel, if do online/over the phone you have 14 days.

Regardless then after 14 days you cannot cancel

By the look of the dates in your first post you're out of the 14 days return window.
The only options would be to transfer the contract to someone else (if O2 allow that).
Sell the iPhone to cover some of the contract costs, or just keep using it...

....O2 will allow you to change the contract to someone else's name, but might be difficult to find someone to transfer it to. Failing that, downgrade to the lowest possible tariff so that you don't have to pay to much.

    Hope this helps.

Downgrades would not be possible until i believe 9/12 months have been served on the current tariff.

O2 do not allow change of ownership on contracts.

Looks like the only option is to sell the iPhone to cover part of the contract or just stick with then...
  • Does anyone know what the lowest cost tarrif is on O2 to downgrade to?
It's nice to be nutty but's more important to be nice

They'll only allow a drop to the next tariff below the one you're one...
