Would you take out a 5 year warranty on a large kitchen appliance

I would never pay out for an extended warranty. As stated above...EU law covers all appliances for 2 years, not the 1 they advertise in stores. Also consumer law gives you added protection during the reasonable life of an appliance.
I recently had dealings with John Lewis over the failure of my laptop which was just out of warranty....I have to say they came off VERY badly and have sunk in my estimation. I had to go through the whole process of threatening Small claims court and although they did pay for my repair in full in the end...it left me without a laptop for around 8 weeks. Obviously not an option for a washing machine.
So...choose a brand carefully ( Which do a free trial membership ) and maybe acquaint your self with local repair shops BEFORE any emergencies so you have a back up.
Oh...and not wanting to appear really negative...be warned that new washing machines often don't perform as well as their old relatives...I sorely miss my old Zanussi.........0 -
Just had a letter from Dom and Gen telling me it will cost me £405 .48 for a new Zanussi washer dryer. They are only £459 to buy (thats JL may be even cheaper) no offer of ££ but by the look of it will only be pence. Cheeky so and so`s how dare they think I`m getting a machine off them. Will be ringing Monday to claim the few pence they are willing to pay out.
I have to get washer dryer as I do not have room for seperate items (would love one of each) The zanussi I have had have been ok machines.
Have just rung Dom and General and they are contributing £98.55 funny isn`t it buy the machine from them and its more expensive?? Also they refuse to pay me out saying its a replacement insurance - in the past when an product has been written off I have recieved a cheque, they are refusing to do this and if I don`t want them to provide a replacement they said they money will sit on my account until I want to buy something from Comet and then I can ring them and order it and they will knock the money off! has anyone heard of this?
Thanks0 -
we had a similar problem with dom gen for my aunties broken oven. (comet).
the whole thing was a complete joke. she had to pay an extra premium and then pay delivery charges.
in total (with the insurance payment) it was nearly as expensive as buying a new oven.
and she could have had a new oven within one day, by paying cash.
as is said before, keep well away from domestic & general. complete robbing scammers.
(it was last year over xmas. she had no oven on xmas day).Get some gorm.0 -
I agree Dom & gen are robbing ********. But I am determined to get the £98.55 as I want to choose where I buy my new machine.
The policy does say if we cannot resonbably arrange a replacement we will pay you a contribution toward the cost of the new equipment, this will be in vouchers redeemable from a retailer chosen by us!!!!!!
What a cheek! this must be new because all the other policies I had gave a ££ payout even though it was only a few £.
I`m going to e`mail a complaint throught and see what happens.0
