Just in the process of buying a washer / dryer £600`ish LG machine and a warranty to cover it for 5 years (replacement if can`t be repaired) is £210. Not sure how much an average repair costs (should I be unfortunate enough to need one) have had cover with Dom and Gen on our kitchen stuff but really don`t like them. this policy would be with Comet. I do get 30 days to decide if I want it or not but wanted to do deal on machine.
Thanks

Personally I don't buy extended warranties, I find I either have issues in the first year or they last ages. Have you looked into extended warranties that are included? Ie John Lewis price match and give a warranty, no idea if it applies on appliances but you may be able to get it elsewhere.
Remember it's actually 4 additional years over the standard 1 year, not 5 years.0 -
There usally RIP off there are one to two exceptions. As the above post has said most items either fail very quickly or you'll have no problems untils its getting on abit.0

Looking on the which website, they advise against these policies in general. They say that unless your machine breaks 3 times a yr, it's not worth it.
Of course it could break three times in a year...!
I have bought 2 large items in Comet in the last month. i found the sales people VERY PUSHY about the warranties. Don't be bullied into it if you can't afford it or don't want it!0 -

That's because they have a quota to meet. Warranties are very very profitable for them!
Personally I'd never buy anything from Comet, they are a bunch of clowns - John Lewis will match the price and give you far better after sales service. For every complex problem there is an answer that is clear, simple and wrong.0 -
Will John Lewis match Comet web price? didn`t know that. The bloke in Comet I must admit was an older gentleman and he was lovely - he did not mention about the warranty it was actually me that mentioned it.
Washer drier is £590 on Comet webside and £649 on John Lewis that is without installation but couldn`t see on JL that they will install it. I really didn`t expect to have to do this before Xmas..and am panicing a bit.0 -

Go into a local Comet shop and see if they will sell you the machine at the web price of £590. If so, then go into John Lewis and tell them that Comet branch XYZ is offering it at £590, will they price match?
Having said all that, you can get one for £548 from hereFor every complex problem there is an answer that is clear, simple and wrong.0 -
Hi
As another thought. If it really has to be a washer dryer and you can stretch your budget a bit more then the machine to go for really is the Miele WT 2780. It will last longer (far longer), wash better, dry better, be more economical, etc. Than any other brand of washer dryer. I know the Miele is £1,170 but if you were thinking of spending just over £800 on the LG with the warranty then the Miele will be a much better bet in the long run as I always think you are far better off investing in the appliance rather than insurance.
Good luck

Thanks again for advice, keith969 would you beleive I have just found that one at £548 had printed it off to take to Comet along with their web price.
CKdesigner I saw the Miele one yesterday but it only has 5kg load and I wanted a larger drum the LG is 9kg but thanks for metioning it.0 -
Hi Katies mum
You see this is where marketing men get involved, 9kg machines in a standard 60cm x 60cm foot print, its just rubbish. Once you get a load over 6kg the wash quality will drop dramatically and it will be unlikely to get to its maximum spin speed at this load capacity.
There are plenty of other threads on here that explain why 9kg machines should be given a miss. The Miele is actually a true 5.5kg load. Question: Does anyone actually weigh their washing before they load their machine? You would be amazed what 5.5kg of laundry actually is.
Don't get sucked into marketing hype!

CKdesigner, thanks for info. Funnyyou should say that about spinning I used my neighbours machine yesterday and on 1400 spin (she has the LG) I didn`t think the towels were as dry as when I spun them om 1200 in my broken Zanussi.
I`ve been thinking about it all night, and am going to look again - can always send washing to mum and dad for another week or so.0
