The OP has not had an accident and has no intention of making a claim so why would you tell the insurance company?

Why would it be a material fact?

The fact the question is asked means it should be disclosed allowing the insurer to decide whether it is a material fact or not :)

Because of the way the rearmost seats are designed, this means that a spare cannot be accommodated inside the Zafira. The only way to carry a spare is to use an underslung spare which is prone to theft. The main market for these stolen spares are drivers of Astras as they are the exact 5 stud steel rim with only a minor profile difference. Ford also have a similar design on the Galaxy but they use a steel disc which holds the rim in place and is harder to remove.

    The only solutions are:

    (1) Put the spare in the boot if you have capacity.
    (2) Leave the spare at home and carry aerosol gunk - only ideal if you drive locally to home.
    (3) Fit an Osprey K-Lok.

The dealers, tyre companies and Vauxhall are making a tidy buck out of this design fault and have no interest in stopping it.
    The man without a signature.
  • Good grief, are we really living in the country that bred the likes of Nelson, Scott and Churchill?

Get hands dirty...climb under motor, fit hardened motorcycle securing chain and proper padlock, same as i have on pick up.

    :-)

    thanks all for your advice.

I wasnt AWARE of the problem when I bought the car.

now i am AWARE of the problem and will take steps to protect it, whether padlock or something like that.

but i still think this design error been intentional by vauxhall so they can make a living out of it! But I aint going to raise my blood pressure by pressuring them etc. I just write it off for now and ensure it doesn't happen again.

Still unsure whether to inform the insurance company. its not like the car been broken into. Should I tell the insurance company that.....i had a sticker on the car and someone peeled it off and ran away with it! :-)
  • Its not Vauxhall's fault the streets are teeming with scum.

I think the design error has been by governments (term used loosely) of the last 40 years...a damn good caning or birching for first times offenders followed for repeat offenders by proper gaol time with hard labour (something most scrotes are terrified of, a days work) would see your spare wheel as safe as it was 40 years ago.

  • If you had done your homework you wouldnt touch a zafira with a bargepole.

So many better cars out there, If you go back to complain ask them to weld steel panels over the windows as well just in case someone tries to break one. Fill tyres with concrete so you wont get any punctures no need for a spare then.

Or you could move to the US where you could sue them and most likely win.

Apples thats a SICK nova BRAAAVVVV....i especially like the filler work on the arches and the fact it hasn't been sanded down or painted gives a real authentic work in progress look. AMAZING CAR!

I wouldn't inform the insurance about anything I didn't want to claim on, does that mean if someone stole your wiper blades (and it happens), you would have to inform the insurance. I doubt it.

    Hi.

Im disappointed. I bought from a vauxhall dealer, 3 weeks ago a zaifra.

today someone stolen the spare wheel! i looked online and it seems its a common problem.

Im surprised my dealer didn't make me aware of the problem.

Do I have any rights here?

    thanks for your help

I have heard some tosh in my lifetime but this beggars belief, have you phoned the dealers yet if not let me know when you do so I can pop in and join in the laughter:rotfl::rotfl::rotfl:,

perhaps its a design fault if the headlamp blows, because if you did not have to operate the switch it would'nt have got hot and blown:rotfl::rotfl::rotfl::rotfl:
