Endless iProducts

I just read your report about Joe McElderry's X Factor single via a link from the "Facebook Rage Against The Machine for Christmas No.1" fansite. I note the following statement from the report: "Once you've downloaded your MP3, most providers automatically add it to your iTunes library or at least give you the option. If not, you should be able to drag and drop the folder into iTunes".
This implies that the only media player for PC use is iTunes, when in reality there are several far superior and longer established media players available, some are free, and indeed many top-end sound cards come with awesome media players bundled with them.
Personally I have been using Winamp since Version 1 (whenever that came out, probably around 15 years ago), and in its current form it provides a far superior experience than iTunes, as indeed are the bundled softwares which come with most Creative sound cards.
It is the continued use of the iProducts format that continues to promote the sales of what is now a rather mediochre brand, for example: the iPhone, a favourite of the Guardian who continuously promote new and 'good value' apps for it. Many other cell-phone manufacturers are currently producing immensely better products, too many to list (my favourites are Nokia), and they come with an array of free apps which are infinitely more useful than the rubbish that you can install on your iPhone. The iPod, now available in many forms and still not good value for money. I suggest that for most people a simple mp3 or mp4 player would be just as adequate, I guess it really depends on how big you expect your music library to become, and whether you intend to keep on playing the tunes you own. Another outstanding alternative to the aging iPod is the Microsoft Zune. Yes Ok it's Microsoft, but this is a very carefully conceived prosuct by a bespoke team aimed exclusively at the portable media device market. Not generally available in the UK, my son got a 120GB version by mail order from the US last Christmas, it cost around £150 and has far superior features, an HD version is now available and is being marketed in the UK. Even the BBC have followed this trend with their iPlayer and the continuous use of the term 'Podcast'. Nothing is sacred! Don't be an iSheep and end this imadness!

I couldn't be bothered to read it either, but noticed the line "This implies that the only media player for PC use is iTunes, when in reality there are several far superior and longer established media players available,"

Doubt anyone can argue with that tbh.

iWould agree but remeber people iHoover their house. i***** is just a marketing ploy by many to get on the band wagon and to sound wanted. I do agree that there is alot of it and I am suprised apple don't try and repress non apple related products.
A Ford Mondeo easily beats some prestige brands however the badge doesn't have the same ring to it. iPod products are well designed and simple for the masses. The iPhone/iTouch has a far better user interface than the constantly changing interfaces on many Nokia/Sony/Samsung phones.

Good grief! As a fan of Apple products, I take great pleasure in telling you to suck it up.

Do you know how many years I've been directed to "just open your C drive..." and countless other Windows inanities? I endure Windows centric terms every day and, as it's the most widely used OS, I generally don't have a problem with it.

iTunes is the most widely used media player for both Mac and PC. Giving the instructions for iTunes does not imply that there are no other media players available. It (correctly) assumes that it's the one the majority of the readers will have.

As for the rest of you post, where to begin?

Apple, the computer company with the highest customer satisfaction by a considerable margin, is a "mediochre brand" [sic]?

    Please.

Your beloved Nokia has such "infinitely more useful" apps that less people use them:

You'll note that iPhone users do pretty much everything more than the owners of other phones. That's because doing it on the iPhone is easier than doing it on any other phone.

As for the Zune HD, pray tell, what apps are available for it? Does it have a video camera? Voice control? Is it available in various models starting at £42?

No. Your alternative to the costly iPod with it's 100,000 "rubbish" apps is an even more expensive media player with no apps at all.

    Good job! :T

It might be b****cks, but I'm proud not to own one single apple product :)

Allowing one's uninformed opinions to cloud one's judgement is quite a common ailment.
Don't agree that the iProduct user interfaces are far better.

It a little easier on the eyes if you use paragraphs

Phil disagrees that paragraphs are better.

Maybe we should all be writing in migraine-inducing blocks of text, less he fires off a novella about his typographical superiority.

Thats why many people will ignore his post :)

"Can't be bothered to read all that but it looks like bo**ocks... :D"

"I couldn't be bothered to read it either"

add me to that list :D

In fact even if it had paragraphs I still wouldn't read it after the mention of x factor

I was going to reply to your long post, but actually you are rather a rude person. Do you suffer with Napoleon syndrome?
  • Never mind Phil 1/10 for effort

    I tried and I didn't like.
Since I have compiled approximately 30 SCADA interfaces for Major Works Control Systems in industrial environments plus countless others for smaller appications I think I know enough about HMI design. Like I said, rude.
