Is she prone to taking time off?
If I thought my boss thought of me in that way I would tell them to stuff their job...0 -
Gosh Cmac - are you suggesting its not for real? I understand your need to protect your business, but if she is upset, is she going to work to the same standard? If you said no - what if she decides to take the time off unpaid? Is it time to sack her?
She may wish to spend a bit of time with her family after the funeral and talk over old trimes and family memories. I am sorry but I have to take the view that a good business can weather some unexpected problems, so lets hope you have a good sound business. But you do need to give a we bit more thought to your employees. If she is worth keeping then she is worth consideringJohn0 -
Well I can understand your doubts then....
How many occassions is this 28 days?0 -
28 days sick leave? sounds like you need to come to an amicable parting thenJohn0

No Irishjohn not for one second.
Irr no serious illness all colds tummy bugs that kind of thing and all 1 or 2 days apart from one 3 day incident.0 -
Unfortunatly 28 days this year and on a final warning for it.
Sounds like she may have cried wolf too many times.
short term pain for long term gain.Time for you to part ways
People who take the pi55 with sick leave undermine the whole point of having it in the first place. Now she needs time for what seems like a genuine reason the finger of suspicion points at her with good reason by the sound of it.You have my sympathy.garth;)0 -

Fair enough, but a business isn't a branch of social services......................I'm smiling because I have no idea what's going on ...:)

I can quite understand the concerns about letting clients down. It's not like having your hair done any old time is it?
Seems to me that this employee is not thinking about anything other than what she wants to do. She might have been close to her grandfather but she is now an adult who lives a fair distance away, and to be frank whether she is at his funeral or not won't bring him back to life.
I think she needs to consider her position, and offer to work out some sort of mutually acceptable compromise.I haven't bogged off yet, and I ain't no babe

TBH I think I would say just the 1 day. Yes I'm sure she would rather have all 3 days off, particularly as that would segue nicely into the Christmas holidays but given the timing for your business, I think it's fair to ask her to be back at work the following day.
It's not like grief can be nicely contained, whether in 1 day or 3 days, it comes and goes and we all have to learn to deal with it as best we can.0
