Nah, nothing to do with Java.

What version and flavour of Java do you have?

It seems to be this:Java 2 Runtime Environment, SE v.1.4.2_03
If it were because of Java, it would happen with all websites, no?

Not necessarily, this forum was recently updated to a newer version of vBulletin.

My Java is version 1.5.0 (build 1.5.0_02-b09) which may not be the very latest but I have never had any problems on this site. You could try updating.

Thank you espresso. I've updated and restarted the PC. But it's still the same, the "error" symbol perpetually there on the bottom left corner of the MSE board window. And I've checked the list of programmes and it still says the same!

same here - the present error is

    Line: 2
    Char: 1
    Error: Invalid character
    Code: 0

and it is nothing to do with Java version
    We detected your Java environment as follows;

Java Runtime Vendor: Sun Microsystems Inc.
    Java Runtime Version 1.5.0_07

CONGRATULATIONS, you have the Latest version of Java!
nb I have to type quote in the square brackets, longhand

    new error while editing ...

    Line: 1059
    Char: 1
    Error: 'vB_Text_Editor' is undefined
    Code: 0

another error is - 'vB_Editor[...]' is null or not an object

But that wouldn't affect the non-working of all the buttons in the post or edit windows either, would it, only the way the page is displayed?

Be careful who you open up to. Today it's ears, tomorrow it's mouth.
  • If I want to copy a line in a quote, it highlights in black, it used to be blue - when I click on the highlighted line to copy it I get a drop down list but it does not have "copy" as an option on it.

Ok, I have also been bugged by this problem ... it sounds like it all went wrong for us at the same time. I've done all the checks suggested and am just fed up with seeing "Errors on page" or "Done, but with errors on page". If I try and thank it just takes me to the top of the page like someone else mentioned. I wonder could it have anything to do with ActiveX Control as I know on some website it asks you the question... but what question I don't know I just click it. Please there must be someone who can help us! P L E A S E ! ! !

I've just noticed something that might help someone solve the problem. Usually I load the mse home page and it appears with New Times Roman font, but occasionally it loads with Arial which is what I think it should be. This is the same with other screens too. But I'm viewing this in Arial and I've got the yellow error sign with Done in the bottom left corner and I can't use Smilies!
