if the person in the car the op went into had done the same as the person in the daily star article and rigged his lights not to come on, then it would prove at the very least that it was probably not the op`s fault as no lights came on to warn her that the car in front was braking, irrelevant of how close to the car the op was, also proves the third party is driving the car illegally

If's buts and maybe's. I suspect IF the brake lights hadn't been working, the OP would have stated so. BUT they didnt so MAYBE they were.
  • I hate people that drive to close to my rear, you should always leave enough room to stop if the vehicle in front decides to stop dead.

There is plenty room for all drivers on the road to leave a more than needed gap. The OP is at fault if the car in front had working brake lights, LEAVE MORE OF A GAP!!!

It's not the person that goes in to the back of someones fault all the time

There are scams out there which have been documented which warn other drivers to be weary of.

Leaving a gap is all very well but not when these are staged accidents.

There used to be a crowd of people going around in Leeds I think tying a piece of ribbon to their aerials. This would indicate to other drivers that they would be up for staging an accident.

Staged accidents are all too common.

A driver where I work was involved in a suspected case a few months ago...

He was travelling down a dual carriageway & was passed by a car which pulled in front. A second car pulled along side his cab & the 1st car braked sharply.

As he had nowhere to go, he was boxed in, & there was no chance of stopping an artic in time... he rear ended the 1st car!

    The 2nd car drove off.

I don't want to go into too much detail but he was interviewed by the police & the incident is being investigated as a suspected "staged" accident.

    Be careful out there!
