I would echo the previous recommendations of 'The Best Friends Guide to Pregnancy' - for the humour and the realisation (for your wife!) that she is not alone in having these crazy thoughts that we pregnant ladies are prone to.

And also the 'What to Expect When You're Expecting' book for the serious stuff.

The only drawbacks of these two books is that they are American and have just been adapted for the British market, so I found that some of the things mentioned in them seemed to refer more to the American experience, but in most cases within the books there are footnotes to explain how it could be different in the UK.

Congratulations. You sound a lot more on the ball than my husband, who has yet to look at any of the books I bought because he finds them too horrifying!!

I'm pregnant with my first, but my partner has 2 teenage daughters. He has been a real star by bringing me breakfast in the mornings which allows me to slowly get up....so easing the nausea / morning sickness. He cooks in the evenings and generally allows me to relax. It really does help.

    Good luck to you both

Haynes actually do a baby book, basically following on from their car manuals, its a more practical look at things.

    Good Luck

Expecting my first at the end of Sep and my bf really enjoyed the book "Bloke's guide to pregnancy". I am reading the Good Birth Guide which is good now I'm further in and need to decide on how to deliver and where. I basically just went to our library and have steadily taken out all their books on pregnancy I think! Not read them all, as the information is basically the same in all: it's just what's the best way for you to read it. "What to expect when you're expecting" (whilst I can tell it's a good book) didn't do it for me at all, for instance, but I really enjoyed "The Fat Ladies Club" in the beginning: 6 friends telling the story of their pregnancies. Oh, and another one for you which my bf has just finished: Dadlands. All available in the library.
  • When I was pregnant my husband was given the book 'You're pregnant too mate!' he found it really good. I swear by the rough guide to pregnancy.

Take a look on e-bay there are always lots of pregnancy books going cheap and you can always sell them on when you are finished with them.

I really liked the rough guide to pregnancy too.. and for afterwards the best book I found was 'the baby whisperer' by Tracey Hogg - just brilliant!
