PeachPickle's DFW Diary

Yes, I'm a shameful shameful copycat, but I decided I'd quite like a diary thread of my own. I hope that's ok, even though I'm a newbie :o

Very few people know I'm in debt, let alone the level of debt, so I thought it might be helpful to have a place I could talk/vent about it occasionally to keep me on the path rather than just stamping my feet to myself. Although I will still be stamping, some things are just too satisfyingly childish to give up!

Little bit of background: I'm 26, just over 20k in debt and I had my lightbulb moment a couple of years ago. Recently I feel as though I've lost motivation a little, found this site and discovered the DFWs. Some of you are just far too inspirational to ignore and I'm going to try and improve upon my shoddy efforts...

I'll jump right in. Today was *rubbish*. Spent a lot of it arguing with my parents about what I wanted for dinner (yes, you read it right, I'm 26) and the fact that I cancelled the ppi on my mother's store cards. I've been on at her to do it for ages now, but she's all intimidated by phone calls etc and wouldn't do it. So today I just called them, pretended to be her and cancelled them. All in, it'll save her £50 a month in charges. And they were annoyed! Pah.

I've developed some highly technical Spend Prevention Techniques and today I used Technique 1 - stayed at home. I usually go into town on a monday and buy random cr*p, but today I didn't and so had a no-spender. Wooh.

Tomorrow's gonna be a rubbish day at work, because tuesdays always are and I've just realised that in not going into town I didn't go to the cashpoint to get this weeks bus fare out and I don't have enough money in my purse for it in the morning  Oh well, the cashpoint is only a 10minute walk away, the walk'll do me good in the morning.

Um. That's all for now :o

    Hey Peaches'

Well done on starting your own debt diary. I was a bit unsure about setting up mine as well, didnt feel as DFW as those above and before me!

Hats off to SS there :)

Well done on the no spender, everyone helps.

On the note about your parents, i should imagine it was possibly more the breach of trust then the saving her money? Dont mean to step on toes but just a thought!

I think it'd be helpful to try and work on the attitude to tuesdays at work, I always hate wednesdays lol! But if you even fake a bit of excitement and sya to yourself today will not be a cr*p day, Im sure it'll be a lot better than you first imagine!

If it's not being too nosey what sort of money do you owe out and to where? Have you posted an SOA yet? Do you have a budget that you work towards?

And again welcome aboard and good luck on your journey xx

Thanks :) I think you're probably right about the parents thing, and I did consider that before I did it. But then I thought sod it, £50 is £50 and she wanted them cancelled anyway. She'll get over it! My dad's since said thanks anyway

It's not too nosy - There's just over 20k owed out to a few ccs/loans/ods that I defaulted on around 4 years ago after a messy messy year sent me a bit mad for a while! It was around 28k but I got it down.

    Shortened soa:

    My money:

Incoming - £1100 after tax (often more with bonuses)

Outgoing - £515 to parents for rent, bills, repaying them etc. This can't be reduced, they need it as much as me!
£300 my total repayments on the 20k
    £50 travel
    £30 phone
£25 ex (he's so lovely, letting me pay back slowly!)
    £12.50 internet
£10 dinner with friends once a month
    £56.50 savings (it's a random amount cos I figure I won't miss the extra £6.50 but it'll build up!)

=£999 (lol, hadn't added that up properly til now!)

I'm not paying any interest on anything, so I've got a few pence in savings 'just in case'. Basically I've got around £200 a month spare with average bonus and I needed to kick myself a bit to get me to use it better so here I am :D It's already had an effect, I've raised my repayments to £375 and *hope* to keep it at that level or higher!

    Back to topic
    Peaches,
I'm a little confused, is the £300 a month to debts for credit cards etc ones that you're not paying interest on?
Or just not paying interest to the friends/family?

I couldn't really see anywhere to save you money in terms of what you pay out since none of it really seems unreasonable?
Could you not use money in savings to pay off a debt or two?

Sorry the shhhhhhhhhh was to SS and James, feel guilty because secretly I have a debt diary here too, but dont tell either of them, or they'll sue me for breach of copyright ;)

Thought about that as soon as I'd posted lol
