AWFULL AWFULL Citibank

Switched my savings on MSE recommendation...
CITIBANK IS RUBBISH FOR CUSTOMER SERVICE !!!!!!!!!!!!
Online only allows payment to 1 nominated account - very restrictive
Their website invites creation of new payee accounts then says - "not valid" without informing you of this restriction - not helpfull
Call center is in noddyland - god knows where .... so communication issues are abound.
The wait time in untenable - 1 hour today just to find out their website is misleading, and be told I cant do what it invites me to do ... ugh soul destroying waste of time.
in short AVOID THIS BANK if customer service is a consideration (when wouldn't it be?)
once the promo rate ends i will be OFF LIKE A SHOT!!!!!!!!!

Citibank do tell you that the only method of withdrawal is to a linked account, nominated on application, in the user guide.

To be honest I cant comment on CITIBANK as I have never used them but as highlighted above you can have access to it anytime and transfer to nominated account.

Quite a few banking institutions are set up like this - I have just opened a Bradford and Bingley saver and you have to choose a nominated account to transfer in / out to.
In addition this is the only way to manage the bradford and bingley account, for example I cannot set up a payment from an external source to pay into BRADFORD AND BINGLEY.

I am unsure why you are so angry..................
Easy access it is................. seems simple to use.

Like i say cant comment on CITIBANK for customer service but the account looks fine in principal.
    :rotfl:
  • Yeah to the above comments, but doesn't detract from the fact that their customer service is so utterly diabolical as it warrants a stream of invective.

I have managed to get in a position where I appear to have two accounts with them, neither of them physically operable, and one one of them containing £25 they have given me as compensation, but as I have simply lost the will to live when dealing with them no doubt I will never get sufficiently activated to ever get access to it.

Worst bank I have ever dealt with. And I frequently have region of 20 accounts active.

[P.S. Alliance and Leicester will probably come second, but still so far off from Citibank that they look like paragons of best banking practise.]
  • Also the worst bank I've ever dealt with.

The latest debacle, phoned up to activate the card which came with a new account, provided the usual details, then was instructed to phone yet another number.

At this stage, I remembered the pledge I'd made to myself to avoid Citibank in future ( even if the account has a slightly higher interest rate ).

ROFL! They must be bad then!

You'll be signing up with Shabbey next, lol!
  • I cannot believe that so many people are having, or reporting such bad service from Citibank.

I have been with them four years now, and whilst I did not get all I wanted first time around, they did after six months give me their £100 Cheque Card, and now have their £500 Interest Free Overdraft, and have to say, I have not had any real issues regarding them in all this time.

When my card was abused back in June, they did make one small error by ordering me a cash card, but this was soon changed, and I had a new Cheque Card within days, since then no problems, and the £20 returned DD fee I had with the mis-use of the card, was swiftly refunded.

As far as banks go, they seem fine with me, as do my other bank Lloyds, the only institution I am having the real problems with, are Nationwide Credit Card services, they have no overseas call centers, the staff are all English, yet trying to get things explained and actions taken against complaints, is a very long process indeed. Now that is bad customer service!:confused::confused::confused::confused:
  • I have received good service from Citibank. No problems.

I've also had no problems with Citibank.
One annoying thing is that they send me a paper statement every month.
Can't seem to find any way (on the web site) to stop them.

Barclays too send out paper statements - I have not tried to stop them (yet).

But with citibank, in May 2009, I sent them a message via the online system (once I was logged in to my account) and asked to change the paper statement frequency. They replied promptly and changed it to an annual statement from the standard monthly (you could also opt for 3 month or 6 month I think).

I like Citibank current account only because they offer USD balance as well. But you are right, they are very inconvenient. Especially when tranferring to another UK bank it takes three days, whereas between HSBC and Llloyds it's only 5 minutes to clear.
