I like Citibank current account only because they offer USD balance as well. But you are right, they are very inconvenient. Especially when tranferring to another UK bank it takes three days, whereas between HSBC and Llloyds it's only 5 minutes to clear.

Think faster payments are coming to citi - not sure when exactly....

Overall I am happy with citi but did recently set up a direct debit from hmrc to my flexi saver account with citi - only it did not get set up. Queried citi and they won't allow direct debits for flexi saver accounts - in which case I should not see the direct debits menu on the account.
I will be a bit more happy if they get faster payments in place.

I think most banks are hit and miss. I find the general service from Citibank OK, but the call centre can be rather unpredictable at times. Equally there are people that sing the praises of Lloyd's TSB, however I wouldn't urinate on them if they were on fire.

Absolutely no problems with Citibank here either. I found their customer service excellent on two separate occasions. But as they say, you can't please everyone!

Smile Bank is not hit or miss but their savings rates must be one of the lowest around. The staff are in the UK and I send secure messages when I have a complaint and these are replied to same day or the followng one. A recent complaint about card readers, pin numbers and not being able to transfer money to family accounts in the same bank without the reader resulted in £50 compensation. My SIL said recently that he wished he could do all his business via Smile.

Having had a current account with Smile for over ten years and various savings accounts, ISA and credit card I can vouch that their service is pretty impeccable. That said, I left them due to poor rates and a service issue that we came to an impasse over.

Generally, the service from a bank is hit and miss; there are those that will sing the praises of a particular institution, and those that loath the mere mention of their name. Alliance and Leicester for example is loathed by many, however I haven't had any specific problems with them. However, like Citibank, their telephone service leaves something to be desired.

    .

Same here TBH, Happy with Smile but interest rates are awful yet they sold me the business on the basis of top rates (don't they all) I still have my Smile accounts but I have moved most of the money.
