Citibank activation

I opened a new flexible saver account with citibank - got their card, activated it and made an initial deposit - 5 working days later the account balance was still 0. I emailed and got a very quick telephone response saying I hadn't activated my account. They did it there and then, but I don't know if they would have got round to telling me this (or just hung onto my cash). Perhaps folk should know about this 'activation' of both card and account!

Same here. I activated my card on the 6th Oct and thought the account was ready so I sent £1 as a test from another bank. 9th Oct and the £1 still had not reached the citi a/c. I rang and was told the account had not been activated, only the card was. Account now activated and today (13th) recieved the £1. I guess my bank must have re-sent the £1 after the first attempt failed.0

i have had so many problems with citibank and their call centres over the years relating to pins, activation, ecards, epins, eacvtivation, cards, accounts etc. I wrote to them to close my account.
they seem very unresponsive at times."enough is a feast"...old Buddist proverb0 -

I have opened two accounts one for myself and the other for my wife. One was activated but the other was not and I acting for both of us did nothing different to either. Thier voice recognition system does not recognise my voice and the tpin did not work to start with. The deposits take three days to show but that may be the fault of RBS as their site says it will take 2 days to clear (don't know why in this day and age I'm sure!). Then even though my own personal account page has the links and tabs, I find I can't add or delete payees to/from the account because (they say) its a flexible account... that doesn't seem very flexible to me. I don't yet see how I can get the money back out if I can't set up a payee (myself) to send it to. On the whole then, not impressed with either their website or the responses to the 3 emails I have had to send in the one week its been running.Better to be silent and considered a fool than to open one's mouth and remove all doubt! :rolleyes:0

You cannot add payees.
The only method of withdrawing funds is to the account you nominated during the application process.
If you send funds from your bank account to the citi account they will go by BACS which is a three day process.

Opened a savings account with Citibank, received my card and pins within a week but for the past 6 days, when I try to activate over the phone I forever get the same 'We are currently experiencing a large volume of calls' message, no matter what time I phone, I even waited for 30mins and in total have probably waited over 90mins to get through. I have emailed them but with no response. A bank out of their depth trying to target new customers with table toping rates and not structured for it.0

Hi sparty
Try 0800 00 55 00. You should get through within ten minutes. The number they advise 0800 00 88 00 is useless!

Hi Sparty,
You've got further than me. I completed the online application, then provided my passport details online. Citibank then asked for documentary evidence, which I sent duly off. That was two weeks ago. Since then I've heard nothing. When I recently opened a Birmingham Midshires savings account, it all went through with 3 days. What am I doing wrong?0 -

Hi Grinch,
I wish I'd known of your 'unfortunate' experiences before I applied to them. I applied over 3 weeks ago. Sent the requested supporting documentation a few days later, in response to a letter. Since then. nothing. The 0880 00 88 00 number is hopeless and the other number doesn't work either. I don't think Citibank will be 'looking after' my money.0
