Sky price hike - who to move to?

I have been getting Sky Everyday (Mid) for £5 a month (on top of the TV subscription) and now they have said that if I don't take their Sky Talk phone calls thing then they are going to up the price of the broadband to £10 a month.
I really resent Sky's constant price hikes so I want to take my broadband elsewhere. So, what is the fastest speed available in the £0-£8 a month range?
I know Virgin is always the fastest but they are just too expensive for me so I really want to find out what is the best value/speed ADSL provider.
Further info:
I live quite a long way from the exchange but would like to get the best possible speed without having to pay too much. My exchange has the following: AOL, O2/Be, C&W/Bulldog, Orange, Sky/Easynet and Talk talk. There is also Virgin Media cable in my area.
I have been getting about 3mbps with Sky. The Be website says I can get about 6mbps with them, but is that really possible on their Be Value package? I'm guessing that speed is assuming an ADSL2+ connection, but am I right in saying that Be Value is just normal ADSl?
What about Orange which apparantly has ADSL MAX available, what's the difference?

£0-£8? You'll have very little choice unless you take a landline bundle or mobile phone bundle. Expect to pay between £10 and £15 if you don't.0

Been looking at BE myself after reading quite a few positives about them. The value package (according to their website) is ADSL 2+ enabled. I notice the current offer is half price for 12 months (ie., £6.75 a month for the Value Package), and with £25 cash back through TCB (not checked other cash backsites), I'm considering it.0 -

Well there are at least a few options this price range. Plusnet, Be, O2, etc. I wouldn't mind taking a landline bundle (currently with BT), either just calls or line rental too, as long as the overall cost wasn't more.0 -

If the Be Value package is ADSL2+ then that is great. Assuming my current 3mbps with Sky is only ADSL then surely I will see a significant speed increase. Anyone know more about this?0 -

Have you thaught about moving all your services to virgin? If not o2/be seems to fit the price range0 -
I`m partway through the process of getting rid of everything sky at the moment.
My mobile contract with 3 had expired so i changed the mobile to O2, i took out a contract but if you want their broadband you only need to be pay as you go. This made me elegible for O2 broadband for half price so its just under £8 per month.
My broadband speed under sky was three meg but under O2 its been as much as 7 - at busy times its 4 and a half to 5 :j
My landline is still with bt and i`ve just taken the rolling 12 month contract for free evening and weekend calls.
Shortly the sky telly will be ditched and i shall take advantage of the freeview built into the telly and may even pay the £20 one off payment for the freesat from sky card as i have all the other equipment.
One thing that i have noticed is that when i check the broadband speed it says that i`m connected to BE instead of O2 so they must have some kind of equipment share happening.
Overall i`m more than happy.

Sky provide excellent ADSL along with O2 and Be and a few others. When I mean excellent I mean proper provision.
That's it. There may be some small companies worth going with but if you want good limits and customer services your're dreaming thinking Sky are robbing you.
Sky also provide excellent customer service [from people you can normally understand and who have understanding].
