  • I can't wait for the next ballot. I don't care if BA folds. At least I go with some dignity and self-respect. Please keep your biased opinions to yourselfs.

    Aren't all opinions biased?

So you're quite happy to take the other 30,000 non Heathrow cabin crew BA staff with you if the company folds? And you call that dignity?

    How peculiar.

The days of everyone wanting a premier service on an aircraft are gone, the vast majority of people just want to get where they are going as cheap as possible with a sandwich and a can of coke. Luxury travel is a decreasing niche market.

Your first ballot, although failed, will probably make everyone think twice about ever flying with BA again, and that's without a strike even taking place. So I'm not sure that you'll even need a second ballot to achieve your aims of folding the company. I'm sure a strike would do the job though.

What a strange thing to say. Have you actually thought this over with a level head? Think about the following questions:

    - What will you do workwise if BA go bust? Or have you made enough money to live happily ever after?
    - Do you think being cabin crew equips you with highly marketable skills such that you'll be able to find a job in the current (tough) employment market?
    - How does your pay and conditions compare to other carriers? If BA go bust, would you happily work for another carrier on their terms and conditions?

You guys might feel all hard done by and for sure, BA's management look like twits, but you need to come up with a pragmatic solution to make BA competitive in terms of cost and service with other airlines and that means taking less attractive terms and conditions.

    Either that or JSA....

I'd be most interested to hear your answers...

Then you should damn well resign and leave the airline to those who care enough to fight for it to survive. Your attitude sucks as much as Walsh's.

I guess this is said in anger and frustration at reading a lot that can't feel very nice, but ...it will confirm the bias you ask some posters not to have.

I can't understand what ''dignity and self respect'' you gain from this attitude, so I'd be interested to learn more about that. And I can't imagine who is more biased about BA cabin crew than BA cabin crew:confused:

I am always somewhat unresolved on my feeling about unions: I just don't feel I know enough to trust gut instinct..but if employees demanding fairness and loyalty from their employers act with such unfairness and disloyalty I think there is a flaw.
  • Seeing the news report where the ballot result was announced and they all burst out like an FA cup final goal in cheers and popping champagne corks is another reason to hate unions. And the fact they botched the legal side of the ballot just goes to show these lefty unionists are incompetent as well as lazy.

Small minded. How's about going out to try to get another job if this one doesn't suit? Like everyone else has to? BA would be better without you.
I think you'll soon find that you'll get no better offers than what you are on at BA at the moment.
I was on a BA flight just yesterday and the flight attendants after handing out the sandwiches, sat and read magazines/blethered. Does it take 4 crew members to sit and read magazines/blether? Is that why you're striking?

The other issue to bear in mind is if you are a BASSA member, former BA CC, assuming that BA goes to the wall then what carrier would want to employ you ?

There is no changes to individuals conditions but to working practises. The changes WW have implemented yield about £40 Million PA which is less than the £50 Million BASSA offered (and being thick claimed was worth £150 Million but PWC soon blasted that one). No changes to terms and conditions have been implemented. The CC have no sympathy from me.

BASSA have handled this badly. Liz Malone cocked up big time (still crewforum loves her). BASSA, in poker terms went all in and yet WW called their bluff. What else have they got now. BASSA were to blame for the strike ballot ruling. The union actively told members who were leaving BA they could still vote when they couldn't.

Do not blame Unite for this. Both Brother Woodley and Brother Simpson have not exactly showered praise on BASSA. While stopping onside in Union terms they have not exactly praised the 12 day strike using words like "over the top" to describe it.

Walsh is trying to save the airline. BASSA thinks they can bring the airline to its knees and the government will nationalise it like it did with the East Coast Mainline. BA has lost around £600Million in the year, has a £3.7billion pension deficit. Does Londondealer understand the implications of that going into the governments pensions lifeboat ?

Will the government nationalise BA. Won't happen. BA will be hived off to another flag carrier. BA is not a monopoly. The govt could easily oversee the sale of the BA routes.

After 9/11 both Sabena and Swissair CC went on strike for more money. They accused the management of using the prevailing conditions to blackmail them.

Not doing so well now are they

Do not feel to sorry for Londondealer, we are all Self Loading Freight in his/her book. It is the stupidity of the likes of Londondealer that will see BA on its knees. This is a battle that Willie Walsh has already won. Good on him for it.
