Bit confused about best way to go.

My first question is..what's the best way to stop? I have only stopped the twice I was pregnant, and that was total morning sickness-wish I'd never started again..hindsight is a wonderful thing.
The second question is..what's the best way to save the cigarette money? A jar on the shelf-putting the money in every day I would use for cigarettes? A new bank account? Under the mattress?.
I know it seems light hearted, but when I've had this comforter for this long, the thought of NOT having it is......well-stomach lurching..
Light hearted? Giving up the cigs? I don't think so!!!!!
I too smoked for 30 years - and I actually loved smoking and was petrified to stop. I smoked more and more and at the end, I was on about 35 a day. I had stopped once before for 6 months and tried to stop several times with gum to no avail.
The good news is - stopping was, for me, much, much easier than I thought it was going to be. I used patches and stopped needing them after only a few weeks - less than half the expected time. I didn't have to use the lightest ones at all.
I was more scared that the habit would be hardest to give up - after all I had been putting something into my mouth and dragging on it hundreds of times a day for many years, and I was terrified of missing my morning ciggie and after dinner ciggie and after tea/coffee ciggie....But that never happened!
I was also petrified of putting on weight and I didnt. i did though develop a love of spearmint chewing gum and ate a few packs a day but that didn't last too long.
I stopped when I was 44 I think........and although i still do get the odd need, - not craving - I wish I had tried to stop so much sooner. Had I known it was going to be so easy for me I would have done so.
Saving - I tried the jar thing but it was too easy to lose respect for the money and I ended up dipping in all the time and replacing, then not replacing it.
I would advise a bank account - Post Office maybe? Or give it to someone you trust to keep.
Good luck. There are free stop smoking web sites where you can talk to others who're giving up and you can get a wee application that sits on your desktop telling you how long you've gone without a fag and how much you've saved and so on. I found that helpful. I also used to tell myself that I was "one puff away from 40 a day".0 -

Lordie - I forgot that I read Alan Carr!!!! I had read it many years ago and pooh-poohed it because he said things like "no-one enjoys smoking" and I disagreed with so much of it but someone I know who was also a confirmed smoker stopped using it so I decided to give it another go, open-minded and take from it only what helped ME. And it worked. I was very ready to stop when I reached my stop date.
It was The Easy Way To Stop Smoking, that I read.0 -
I stopped cold turkey 2 months ago, admittidly I cracked after a week and had a couple, but next day I stopped again.
The thing with smoking is what I call 'triggers', like you have had a meal, then you fancy a ciggie, or with a cup of tea, or you'v done the ironing, then you have a ciggie.
The worst bit for me was being stuck in a traffic queue, I would immediately light up.
The money I have saved since the new year I have put away as going on holiday in a week or so, and have put it towards that.:D
I still fancy one, and have to stay away from people who I know around me smokes, but I can go days now and not crave, but the odd time I do, so I get stuck in with something then it goes.
Its hard work as my OH smokes, and we always smoked outside the house anyway, but in fact when he has a fag, it puts me off, I know it sounds strange what I am saying, but he is what I term ' a dirty smoker', where the smoke is all around him, or it seems it comes through his pores, standing next to him I am heaving, and cant even give him a kiss, but yet, I have friends who smoke but it doesnt make me heave, I can hardly smell thier smoke, so I havent a clue why its so bad with my OH, maybe someone will know the answer to that.
I just wish he would pack up as he really stinks, and I would hate to be stuck in a lift with him.
I even noticed it when I smoked too, but it wasnt as bad then.:(
I have a friend who gave up 4 years ago, and she still fancies a ciggie, she loves the smell of cigarette smoke, and if someone is smoking she will have a sniff of the smoke, and she is fine.
Good luck, and the money you will save will be so much, and you will be able to save for the important things in life.:)0 -

I will respect your opinions, even if I don't agree with them0 -
Probably a stupidly late suggestion, but you could try the Sealed Pot Challenge and put your cigarette monies in there and then eventually (after a year) see how much you have saved!Sealed Pot Challenge Member #8810

If you read it carefully, and just accept that you may not agree with everything he says - I think you'll be pleasantly surprised. I was the biggest sceptic going when I read it but it was a true revelation. All the best!0 -
