Play.com price drop?

I recently bought an item from Play.com the day after release for £24.99, which was the pre-order price. The following day they reduced the price to £22.99. Obviously I was not very happy!

Does anyone know if Play.com have a policy where they will refund you the difference if they drop the price within a certain period.

I heard that Amazon do this but I can't find anything in Play's t&c to say if they do or not.

Any help / advice would be much appreciated.

  • You were happy to pay £24.99 when the order was placed. Unless play will give you a gesture of goodwill it's unlikely to change ...

I wouldn't bother for £2 either, but the OP may be in dire financial straits for all we know...

If you're in the UK and bought it within the last 7 days, you have that long under the Distance Selling Regulations to return it for a full refund. Then just buy it again at the new price.

But wont the OP have to pay to return it to Play?

Good point! - In which case, they would still come out ahead if it was say a memory card which could go as letter post, but could be way out of pocket if it's something really heavy...

In which case what does Play sell that is essential ;)

This is MSE 2 quid i sbetter in our pockets than theirs. However everything does come down in price and there is competition for play to consider. Ask them the question OP then live with the answer.

The OP may very well be in the UK, but Play.com is not.

    Thanks for your replies.

I know it is "only £2", but it's the principle. If they were happy to sell it for £22.99 2 days after it's release date then why not sell it for that price initially?

They probably dropped the price to compete with Amazon but it's still quite annoying when you have paid for something then almost as soon as you have ordered and long before you have received it the price is lower.

And the "£2" amounts to 10% of the purchase price.

I think I'll be spending my hard earned elsewhere from now on!

Are you aware of any retailers who don't drop their prices ever? I bought petrol from Asda on Saturday at 105.9 per litre and the next day they'd dropped it to 103.9. Should I stop shopping there?
