Are all low paid jobs like this??

Only get statutory sick pay (IE don't get paid for the first 3 days sickness)
No pension
No annual pay rise
Little chance of an actual pay rise
Minimum holidays allowed by law
No Christmas bonus/party
Little chance of promotion
Hard work isn't rewarded only sucking up gets you places
Overtime paid at regular rate.
When I say low paid I mean £15K or under, The reason I ask is I have put up with 14 years of this, I don't want to endure another 14, I am wondering if it is just my employer, if so 2010 is the year for change, if not and all low paid jobs are like this then I don't mind gaining some qualifications in order to better myself, however I have NVQ's, GCSE's,RSA's etc but all aren't worth the paper they are written on so would need to finish the degree I started with the Open University some years ago.
Opinions appreciated?

You forgot full of bitter people who think they are better and harder working than they actually are.
In a low paid job anyone with any sort of commitment and ability should be able to find promotion or better jobs within 2 years easily.0 -
nireland guy, haven't we been through this cycle with you before? I think you have had a lot of career advice in your other threads.
what have you implemented? (before people spend time recycling the same suggestions for you)Debt free 4th April 2007.
New house. Bigger mortgage. MFWB after I have my buffer cash in place.0 -

Yes but actions speak louder than words.
Committed able employees are not in entry level positions for 14 years without major faults.0 -

No, I am in the industry 14 years, with this employer 4, perhaps all factory work is the sameThis is a system account and does not represent a real person. To contact the Forum Team email forumteam@moneysavingexpert.com0 -

No it is not.
If you were a committed, hard working, able employee you would have been able to find internal or external promotion opportunities.
The lack of this means either you havent tried or you arent very good.0 -

I've worked for a fair few companies - the best way to get a pay rise is to get a new job with a new company... and that usually goes no matter where you are on the earnings/career ladder

If you don't like it there - LEAVE!
At 18 I started out on 10k... by improving and movign on and putting in a lot of hard work and long hours that now a lot higher than that...DFW Nerd #025DFW no more! Officially debt free 2017 - now joining the MFW's!
My DFW Diary - blah- mildly funny stuff about my journey0
