Gopppers, that sounds awful. Thankfully my lips are not that bad, just unsightly when I apply my lippy.
I have tried a few things and the best for me seems to be the rough face cloth and then Vit E seems to be keeping them in tip top condition, cheap too. Thanks for your advice.0 -
I think my wintery dry lips come less from the cold outside and more from the central heating inside- my boyfriend's house is cooler and after a couple of days there my lips got completely better.
The Body Shop lip exfoliator is called "Lipscuff" and can be found with the makeup for lips. I also use the lip butters from there- the balms are more of a gloss and these are the equivalent of body butter for the lips. Quite expensive (£4.80) but I worked there over Christmas so not for me! Currently loving papaya flavour but there is a brazil nut one in the sale for £2...0 -
Pout do a sugar scrub especially for lips... it's fab would definitely recommend it!0

sorry if i am repeating anything - not had chance to read all posts. have you thought if your lipstick - if you use it is causing it or any particular lipbalm making it worse. i find the avon and No7 lipsticks cause my lips to become drier. and any lipbalms containing, oxybenzone - put in products to initially moisturise but eventually dry out and make worse dry lips - so that you use more of that product = viscious circle. ( i googled oxybenzone ages ago when i tried a cream that had this init and causes a small dry patch on my forehead!)
oh forgot to mention too, that licking the lips does it more harm because of saliva - it could make it infected and spread further like a cold sore - "smacked lip" - if that happens you will need to see your gp who'll give a steriod cream: hydrocoritisan - which will help clear it up (don't be wary of it being a steriod - it really worked for me).0 -
I use olive oil mixed with some granualted sugar, cheap and cheerful and lips and face feel really smooth and moisturised afterwards.0

Hi Rosefairy. I got this cream from my docs as well and it seemed to clear up the problem in no time. But the GP advised not to use it contiuously and have a break in between uses (ie one week on, one week off) but I found that in the one week of, my chapped lips came back!! Are you having a similar experience?Sealed Pot Challenge Member #8810 -
Hi Goppers. yes it did take a fews weeks of 'on & off' usage to get them better - but mine did eventually get better (this incidence was a couple of years ago), and i avoided those lipsticks. i did a few other things too, like up water to 2 litres a day (those summer beakers that hold about 500ml water -drink in one go btw!, helps as i need to drink a min of 4 glasses then. i read somewhere that in 'chinese face reading' spots/sores/cracked lips indicated stomach acidity and to aviod spicy and fatty foods - which stimulate acidity. stress, alcohol coffee and a weakened immune system could be a cause too. i also started taking those effervescent vit cs once a day. and i used my clinique 7 day scrub on my lips once a week too.
so maybe the combination helped, and i still continue with many of the above.
hope yours gets better quickly and never comes back - i understand that it's not only painful but can make you self consicious too.0 -
Another vote for Benefit Lipscription, it is pricey (£23 ) but the exfoliator tube really seems to do the job without feeling harsh. It seems to have lasted ages as well.0

Hi - my doctor told me that Vaseline is a sealant - once you cover an area with it, it allows the skin to self-moisturise, so if your lips are dry don't bother with Vaseline, as it will only feel good temporarily, it has no moisturising properties. Check out your local pharmacy for an over-the-counter remedy called Cymex Cream - this treats cold sores and cracked lips. I started to use this as my mouth was slit at both sides (like the Joker in Batman!) from the winter weather, and the corners of my mouth and lip texture finally went back to normal in a week! And trust me, I had tried everything else for 3 months and the corners of my mouth continued to split open and bleed!
I would only use the Vaseline when exfoliating with a toothrush. Oh and take a B vitamin complex as well to ensure optimum skin condition. This will help with the lips. Good luck!0 -
B never (sister company of lush which has recently closed) do a great lip scrub, which they are going to sell in Lush soon - they have lovely flavours too. However you can make your own one with a bit of olive oil and caster sugar.Free Films in 2011: Tangled, Chalet Girl, Never Say Never, Pirates of the Caribbean: On Stranger Tides
