Believe me I've tried all ways to get this sorted. 2 phone calls, 5 different people and altogether 1 and half hours of wasted time.
The response remains "tough". I have cried my eyes out on the phone to them and they just say its policy and they can't help.
Thanks for all the replies though.

this happens to me every two week that i do my online asda shopping. i just call my bank and they remove the earmarked amount now. i have been on to asda they blame the bank and the bank blame asda. i was told by my bank that it was because i had accepted subs??? so i will try on my xmas shop to see if it happens again. it makes me so mad but tesco dont take electron so im stuck with it..... its alot of monet to be on hold but thankfully my bank now (the co operative) just remove it for me as i call then every two week for it to happen.

Hi
i had the same problem with asda last week , first time i had this problem and i thought it was because i used my co-op cashminder card (which is seen as an electron by many stores)
i always used halifax visa debit in the past and this never happened & as i was also on a tight budget this messed me up for a week , i wont be shopping online with asda again
when i rang the co-op they told me that asda and tesco do this
OP....is it a cashminder account you have ? ie electron card ?Resolve not to be poor, Whatever you have , Spend less.0 -
I've shopped online with ASDA many, many times and never experienced this problem. The day that I place the order, they earmark £1 in my account; and the day of delivery they take the full amount.
It would be impractical for them to earmark the original amount AND then take the right amount - imagine how many payments would get declined from people who only have enough money in the bank to cover the shopping.
As far as i am aware, and in my experience, this is most definitely not standard practice. I sincerely hope they sort it out for you soon and compensate you in some way for the unnecessary stress they have caused.Cheer up. The worst is yet to come - Mark Twain0 -
Well thats all I can say is shame on Asda and thanks for the warning. ? does this apply to all Supermarkets.
tesco done this to me, everytime i amended my order so had 1 payment debited and 2 on hold so i was short for about a week as each payment was £70ishWins so far this year: Mum to be bath set, follow me Domino Dog, Vital baby feeding set, Spiderman goody bag, free pack of Kiplings cakes, £15 love to shop voucher, HTC Desire, Olive oil cooking spray, Original Source Strawberry Shower Gel, Garnier skin care hamper, Marc Jacobs fragrance.0 -
i work for asda home shopping for my sins.
to clarify, you get "probed" with a £1.00 when you checkout your order and you do not get debited for your shopping amount until after your delivery has been made and the driver returned to store and sync'ed his palm pilot with the asda computer.
This is to allow for differnt total amounts caused by substitutes being sent back, damages, returns (any item can be returned for any reason) or goodwill refunds.
Of course !!!!-ups by staff and south african call centre staff don't help things run as smooth as either asda or the customer would like them to.

I thought the call centre accents were south african but I didnt think it possible lol! I have had to join tesco instead as asda cant seem to sort out the problem with my account. When I try to checkout all the prices go to £0.00 and it gives me a red error message. I been on the phone (to south africa lol) a total of 6 times now and I've given up. Previously they told me I wasnt me at all.
I wish I wasnt me. I'd rather be a 23 yr old blond with plenty money...0 -
im registered blind and live alone so i rely on internet shooping for everything including groceries.
with regards to online grocery shopping ive always used tesco's. you can write a note for the picker / driver for every product you order. you can choose between looking for a general but suitable alternative / choosing a specific alternative that you want or not substituting at all.
if you do get substitutes and you havent asked for them tesco price match the substitute item to the original unavailable item that you have chosen. if you get a substitution and you havent asked for it. you can give it back to the driver and the money will be refunded to your account.
with regards to payment tesco only take the amount from your account when the shopping has been picked and dispatched. they dont take a deposit for changing your order and you can change your order as many times as you like.
hope this helps0 -
I have just had my asda online shop cancelled. However despite having my home number , mobile number and email they did not bother to inform me. CS said after a lengthy conversation the good news is if we have debited your money you will get it back! I am livid, it was my big christmas shop. Now have to go v early tomorrow morning. Will not use again. I know things can go wrong but if I had known early enough would have gone tonight. One day the big prize will be mine!
